Saturday, July 11th marked a historic day for the Collinsville Fire Department and the State of Oklahoma. We proudly welcomed D-Shift and officially began operating on a 24/72 schedule, making the Collinsville Fire Department the first professional fire department in Oklahoma to implement this progressive four-platoon staffing model, joining the Ft. Gibson Fire Department in leading the way toward changing the traditional fire service schedule to one that puts firefighter health and wellness first.
And what better way to kick things off than by answering a commercial structure fire alongside our off-going C-Shift. It was a true display of teamwork, professionalism, and the seamless transition that defines this department.
The move to a 24/72 schedule is about far more than adding another shift. It’s an investment in our firefighters, our families, and ultimately the community we serve. More recovery time between shifts means:
🔥 Better physical and mental health
🔥 Improved sleep and reduced fatigue
🔥 More time with family and stronger work-life balance
🔥 Increased recruitment and retention of quality firefighters
🔥 Healthier, more resilient crews who are better prepared to serve when our community calls.
This milestone would not have been possible without the support and vision of the City of Collinsville, our city leadership, administration, and everyone who recognized the long-term value of investing in the people who protect this community. Thank you for believing in this department and making this historic change a reality. We are excited to see other departments follow our lead.
