Troop 8 encompasses Bond, Clinton, Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery, Monroe, St. Clair, and Washington counties. Headquarters are located in Collinsville and Litchfield. The primary function of Troopers in Troop 8 is to patrol interstates I-55, I-64, I-255, and I-270, and many rural/unincorpo

rated areas throughout the counties. In addition to normal patrol functions, ISP Troopers work throughout the Troop addressing gun and drug trafficking within local communities and on the interstates. ISP responsibilities include traffic enforcement, criminal patrol, commercial motor vehicle enforcement, and assisting the public on Illinois roadways.

EAST ST. LOUIS โ€“ The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Public Safety Enforcement Group (PSEG) arrested 23-year-old Brion D. Bess of Swansea, IL for First Degree Murder (Class M Felony).

On June 3, 2026, the East St. Louis Police Department requested ISP to assist with a homicide investigation that occurred at the intersection of 25th Street and Ridge Avenue. The victim, 24-year-old, Niโ€™kajha A.K. Johnson of St. Louis, MO was shot inside her vehicle while stopped at a stop sign. Johnson was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

After a thorough investigation, with the assistance of the East St. Louis Police Department, ISP PSEG Special Agents identified Bess as the suspect. On June 5, 2026, ISP presented the case to the St. Clair County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, who charged Bess with First Degree Murder. Bess is being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending her first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charge is not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

On May 12, 2026, the Brooklyn Police Department and St. Clair County Housing Authority Police requested ISPโ€™s assistance with a homicide investigation at an apartment in the 600 block of South 6th Street. Officers conducting a welfare check located a deceased female, 37-year-old Dolnesha Jones.

After a swift and thorough investigation, ISP Special Agents identified Ursery as the suspect. On May 14, 2026, ISP Special Agents presented the case to St. Clair County Stateโ€™s Attorney James Gomric, and the above-mentioned charge was filed. Ursery is being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending his first court appearance. There is no further information.

Troop 8 would like to welcome the newest member of our family, Kimber, a Belgian Malinois. She officially joined her new partner, Trooper Cason Hight, on May 1, when they both graduated from Canine Class 93 after ten weeks of intensive training. Congratulations to Trooper Hight and Kimber on their achievement!
