If you enjoy being outside and working with nature, we've got a terrific opportunity and would be grateful for the help!
We'll be hosting a "Restoration Day" at Richards Woods this Saturday, July 11. We'll have our restoration coordinator, Tom Doyle, at the site from 9 a.m. to noon and we would welcome anyone who cares to join us! Sometimes, nature needs a hand, and that's the idea behind these periodic restoration events -- to remove some of the invasive plants that tend to suffocate other growth. If you aren't familiar with Richards Woods, it's a beautiful, timbered 35-acre green space property the City purchased in 2021. It's near Schwarz Road and Marine Road (Illinois Route 143). (It's also a great opportunity for those looking to earn volunteer service hours!)
If you'd like to mark your calendar for upcoming restoration events, please visit our webpage: www.cityofedwardsville.com/greenprojects
Here are the details for Saturday:
🌿 WHERE/WHEN: 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 11. Volunteers can park and meet in the trail parking lot next to Richards Woods at East Schwarz and Route 143.
🌿 WHAT TO BRING: Sturdy shoes, yard work gloves and water. (You'll be pulling and stacking invasive plants.)
🌿 QUESTIONS? Call our Parks and Recreation Department at 618-692-7538 or email our Parks director, Nate Tingley, at [email protected]
