As Police Chief, I would like to recognize a local business for its outstanding compassion and generosity toward a family in need.

While on patrol, I observed two young children, their parents, and their dogs along the roadway in freezing temperatures. Due to the weather conditions, I stopped to check their welfare and learned they had been involved in a motor vehicle accident and were stranded.

Arrangements were made to secure a hotel room for the family to be out of the weather. I then went to Jack’s Restaurant to purchase food for them and explained that I needed a variety of items for a family.

Upon learning the circumstances, the staff generously refused payment, hurried to complete the order and donated the food instead. Some staff asking If the family needed any further assistance.

In a world where compassion can sometimes feel rare, moments like this remind us that kindness is still very much alive in Collinsville. Acts like this make me proud to serve this community.

I hope Jack’s upper management sees this and recognizes that they have an exceptional team and an outstanding restaurant right here in small town Collinsville, Alabama.

Help me congratulate one of our own, Communications Officer Connie Brothers — with the Chief’s Award.

He has faithfully stood watch, not on the streets, but behind the radio, guiding, guarding, and giving strength to every officer and community member. For nearly a decade and a half, you have gone above and beyond, you’ve been the calm, the steady voice, and the quiet hero who often goes unseen but never unappreciated.
We see you.

Your dedication reflects the very heart of service, steadfast, humble, and unwavering.

“On behalf of our department and the community we serve, thank you for your faithful commitment. May the Lord continue to bless your hands, guide your voice, and strengthen your spirit as you keep watch over those who keep watch for others.
Well done, and congratulations on nearly fifteen years of outstanding service. We are grateful for you, inspired by you, and blessed to serve alongside you. What an honor it is for me to present you with this award, I’m so proud of you.”

I really don’t know where to start with this post. On Tuesday, I met with Mayor Traffanstedt, and incoming mayor, Chandler. I advised them, I would be resigning as chief of police.

While this has not been an easy decision for me to make, it is what I must do for my family, and the City of Collinsville. My girls deserve the best of their father, and for me to be more present. The city deserves a chief that can be 100% all the time.

The City of Collinsville has been great to me over the past 3 years, and I am beyond grateful for the friendships I have made during my tenure here. There’s nothing personal for the reason of my resignation. The mayor, city council members, clerks, street department, fire department, and you all as citizens have became like family to me.

I will still be around, as I have accepted a job at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, where I started my career.

I love, and appreciate you all, and as always, call me if you need me.

The City of Collinsville, nor the Collinsville Police Department, has no control over any state or federal agency. They do not have to have “permission” to take any action inside the city limits of Collinsville, or any other city or town. Myself as Chief of Police, the mayor, or city council have no control over state or federal agencies.

Thank you for your understanding.

I’m going to put this out there, because it’s heavy on my mind.

I know it’s hard now days to trust anybody at all. But as a person, and Chief of Police, I want every citizen, child, adult, race, creed, color or religion to know, you are safe with me.

I will be damned, before I mistreat, or put up with anyone being mistreated while in my control. I want everyone to know, CPD is a safe place for any and everybody, from Collinsville or wherever you may be from.

We’re not all the same, and my door is always open. I’ll always be a listening ear. Thank you all for the respect, support, and appreciation you all show to us at CPD.
