This week is CPR & AED Awareness Week
CPR, or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is the act of manually pumping a stopped heart to keep blood and oxygen flowing through the body until help arrives. In addition to keeping oxygenated blood flowing to vital organs like the brain, CPR also helps prevent blood from clotting. If you're trained in CPR, you can also provide rescue breaths to add even more oxygen to the blood.
Why learn CPR?
70% of cardiac arrests happen outside of the hospital, and early CPR can double or triple the odds of survival. This means YOU are more likely to be in the position to save a life than you might think!
Not trained in CPR? Hands-Only CPR (compression-only) is recommended for untrained bystanders and is still incredibly effective. In many places, including in Berrien County, 911 dispatchers will walk you through the steps to provide Hands-Only CPR until help arrives!
Learning CPR is one of the most powerful things you can do for your community.
