We are aware that we currently have a tremendous amount of snow to deal with but here is a little reminder of the law.

Please review the law and refrain from plowing snow across the road or on the side of the road. It causes a safety hazard.

MICHIGAN VEHICLE CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 300 of 1949

257.677a Obstruction of safety vision by removal or deposit of snow, ice, or slush prohibited. Sec. 677a.

(1) As used in this section:

(a) "Person" does not include the state or a political subdivision of the state or an employee of the state or a
political subdivision of the state operating within the scope of his duties.

(b) "Safety vision" means an unobstructed line of sight enabling a driver to travel upon, enter, or exit a roadway
in a safe manner.

(2) A person shall not remove, or cause to be removed, snow, ice, or slush onto or across a roadway or the shoulder of the roadway in a manner which obstructs the safety vision of the driver ofa motor vehicle other than off-road vehicles.

(3) A person shall not deposit, or cause to be deposited, snow, ice, or slush onto or across a roadway or the shoulder of the roadway in a manner which obstructs the safety vision of the driver ofa motor vehicle.

(4) A person shall not deposit, or cause to be deposited, snow, ice or slush on any roadway or highway.

Road conditions and visibility are awful this morning.

It is snowing, in the neighborhood of several inches an hour. The plows cannot keep up and the roads are very snow covered. We ask that if you do not have to travel please stay home.

The Winter Storm Warning is currently until 1:00 pm but it is lake effect so who knows when this is going to end.

If you have to travel, TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS. Use the manual setting, do not assume the automatic lights have come on.

Be safe and stay warm. Keep all the first responders in your thoughts today!

If you don’t have to go anywhere please stay home. Roads are not good. Windchill are dangerous and we want all Township residents to stay safe and warm today.

From the files of the lost and found...

This adorable little croc was found in our parking lot after Santa visited the Township.

If it is yours, it has been hanging out with us for awhile but is ready to go home.

Officers are headed to a jack knifed semi at the eastbound 38 mile marker of I-94 blocking the lanes. Please avoid the area.

UPDATE 1-19-26 AT1:44 PM:

I-94 is eastbound is now open, please continue to use caution.

I-94 eastbound at the I-196 interchange is currently closed due to multiple slide offs. The roads are very slippery and there are periods of very diminished visibility.

Officers urge people to SLOW DOWN, avoid the area if possible and TURN ON YOUR HEADLIGHTS (just because you have automatic head lights doesn't guarantee that they are on. Use the manual setting)

First responders and towing personnel are out there doing their jobs in this weather, please stay focused and go slow. We want everyone to arrive to their destination safely.

Also drivers put your phones down and pay attention to driving not what we are doing. 1 it’s illegal and if we catch you it’s a ticket for sure. That causes more issues. Pay attention to the Road and less about recording it.

We had a wonderful time last night with 96 area kids getting to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. A big thank you to North Berrien Fire and Rescue, Miss and Mr. Coloma and their court, our volunteer photographer and all our volunteers that helped make this an amazing event!

Pictures will likely be posted on this page early next week.

We wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas!

It has come to our attention that there is a page portraying themselves as the City of Coloma that has posted a derogatory and offensive message saying it was from the Coloma Township Police Department. This is not the City of Coloma but someone who thinks they are being funny.

We will be sure to tell Santa tomorrow night when he gets to the Township so they can be put on the NAUGHTY list.

Stay tuned for more details....
