The park asked us to share their free public lecture titled "George Washington's Forgotten Friend: The French Nobleman Who Helped Win American Independence" on August 29, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Log House in the George Washington Birthplace National Monument.

Rosemary Mahan, former Director of the Westmoreland County Museum, recently shared her knowledge and experience with the Colonial Beach Historical Society & Museum through an engaging presentation titled “Genealogy 101.” Mahan introduced attendees to the fundamentals of researching family history, offering helpful guidance on how to begin tracing family roots, locate historical records, and make use of local resources. Drawing on her extensive background in history and museum work, she provided practical tips for uncovering the stories behind names, dates, and documents. The program offered both beginning and experienced researchers useful tools for exploring their ancestry and preserving their family histories for future generations.

A heartfelt **thank you** to **Joyce Reid** and **St. Mary's Op Shop** for their generous donation of a **Bell & Howell film projector** to the Colonial Beach Historical Society and Museum!

This wonderful gift will be put to excellent use. Our collection includes historic films preserved on reels, and thanks to this projector, we'll be able to view, preserve, and share these priceless glimpses of Colonial Beach's past with our community.

Donations like this help us bring history to life and ensure that treasured pieces of our local heritage can continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Preserving History Together: Thank You, Moore and Teresa Gouldman
When Moore and Teresa Gouldman recently stopped by the Colonial Beach Museum to say hello, it gave us the perfect opportunity to once again recognize their incredible generosity and support.

Many of you may remember that our Native American Exhibit tells the story of the Gouldman Oyster Shell Midden, an important archaeological site discovered on the Gouldmans' property during surveys conducted in 2007 and 2008 prior to the construction of the new bridge near Wilkerson's Restaurant. Dating from approximately 500 B.C. to 1000 A.D., the site has provided valuable insight into the lives of the Native peoples who once called this area home.

The Gouldman family's generosity helped make it possible for these remarkable artifacts to be preserved and displayed here at the Museum, and their recent donation is another wonderful example of their continued commitment to preserving Colonial Beach's history.

We simply wanted to take a moment to highlight Moore and Teresa once again and thank them for their generous contribution and their ongoing support of the Colonial Beach Historical Society and Museum. Their kindness and dedication help us continue sharing our community's rich history with visitors and future generations.

Thank you, Moore and Teresa! We always enjoy your visits and are grateful for all you do to support the Museum.
