Two Tri-City Chili Peppers Cosmic Baseball players visited the Colonial Heights Rotary Club on Thursday, August 7, 2025. They were invited by club president Tim Stafford and Past District Governor Debbie Wall to share their experiences with what’s been invented in Colonial Heights and is quickly spreading across the country. It’s Cosmic Baseball and it’s adding entertainment back into what some think has become a boring sport - baseball. It’s baseball alright, but it’s played at night and in the dark under blacklights…. No well-lit stadiums - dark.
The black lights mounted on multiple poles that surround a ball field are small but powerful and provide awesome coverage as they illuminate the ball, bat, players uniforms, shoes, hats, and all the stuff that goes with baseball. If you haven’t seen one of these games, you have got to get yourself a ticket. But wait, every game is sold out. These teams are filling major league stadiums as they travel to major cities to play baseball. And don’t think this isn’t going to expand to soccer, rugby, ice hockey and a host of other sports. It’s different, it’s entertaining, and it’s brought fun back into the sport. And equally important, the players are engaging with the fans. There is much more interface than there ever was between players and fans. The good news is that if you’re a season ticket holder for the Tri-City Chili Peppers, you get to go to all the home games, including the cosmic games, enjoy a free meal, and have a great time.
So, if you live close to the great city of Colonial Heights, consider expanding your sports activities to include some fun at Sheppard Stadium and while you’re at it, join the members of one of the area Rotary Clubs for breakfast, lunch, or dinner meeting. They would be glad to have you.
This past Thursday, the Colonial Heights Club was joined by Dalton Hurst and Chazz Kirkland from one of the two cosmic teams playing out of Colonial Heights. Both are college degrees and are entering the world of baseball in a relatively unconventional way, but they love it. They love interacting with the fans and they love what it’s doing to the sport of baseball. Enthusiasm was the order of the evening at our club meeting, and we were pleased to be joined by Mark Creech from Prince George; Jennifer Spraggins from Chester; Rick and Kim Maddux from Petersburg Lunch; as well as Richard Taylor and Kelli Parker from Petersburg Breakfast. It was a great Rotary meeting that could only have been better if it had been at a Cosmic baseball game. As you can see from the photos, two of the major Cosmic fans, Debbie and Stan Wall came dressed with Rotary pins on the Cosmic “black light activated” shirts and made Dalton and Chazz feel quite welcome!
To top the night off, Past District Governor Debbie presented a District 7600 Check to Colonial Heights Club President Tim Stafford for some $6000.00 to support a historic and education opportunity at Violent Bank in Colonial Heights. This project, to be completed in conjunction with the City of Colonial Heights, will provide better security for what is essentially a nation historic treasure located in Colonial Heights, Virginia.
