Today, our staff received a special visit from a wonderful group from Williamsburg who are in town for the Mount Pleasant Summer Camp. They stopped by with sweet treats, fresh fruit, and thoughtful notes of encouragement for our team.

🎓 Welcome to the team, and congratulations on your graduation!

Today, Recruit Officers Whirley and Miller graduated from the 106th Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Crater Criminal Justice Training Academy. This important milestone marks the beginning of their law enforcement careers and reflects months of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

The next step in their journey is the Field Training Program, where they will continue to develop the skills and experience needed to serve our community.

Today, we celebrate all of the fathers and father figures who make a difference every day. We would especially like to recognize the dedicated dads of our department who often sacrifice time with their own families while serving and protecting ours.

Congratulations to Officer Naitraj David, our Employee of the Month for April! 👏💙

Officer David is being recognized for his exceptional compassion and dedication to serving others. While assisting a mother and her two children who had fled an unsafe situation, he went above and beyond to ensure they reached safety by personally providing transportation assistance and even donating $100 of his own money to help them continue their journey. 🥹

His selfless actions embody the very best of community policing and reflect the heart of service that makes our department proud. Congratulations, Officer David, and thank you for making a difference!

On Friday, Office on Youth hosted a lemonade stand and raised an incredible $600! They generously chose to donate the proceeds to the Special Olympics of Virginia, an organization that holds a special place in the hearts of our department.

Oh… you thought the Fatal Vision Cart was just for educational demonstrations? 😂

Not around here.

Once everyone learned how tricky it was, our staff couldn't resist taking their own turn. Safe to say there were a few unexpected "driving skills" on display and plenty of laughs along the way.

Sometimes the best way to learn a serious lesson is to experience just how difficult impairment can make even the simplest tasks. 🚓😅

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Office on Youth for a behind-the-scenes tour of our police department, and we hope they had an unforgettable experience! 🤯

The group got to meet our dynamic duo, Sgt. Bane and his K-9 partner, handled by Master Officer Fontaine. A huge shoutout to Officer Polumbo for volunteering to suit up for the K-9 demonstration (we're sure she's still recovering! 🥴🤣). 🐾

They also visited our Investigations Unit, where they learned how detectives process crime scenes by lifting fingerprints. A special thank you to Detective Davis and Detective Velasquez for taking the time to share their knowledge and give the group a hands-on look at crime scene processing! 🕵️🕵️‍♂️

The group also got an up-close look at our Drone Program as Sgt. Ayers demonstrated how our drones are used to enhance officer safety and assist during critical incidents. They first watched an outdoor drone take flight before seeing our indoor drone in action, giving them a firsthand look at the different ways this technology helps officers safely gather information and navigate challenging environments. ☁️ ✈️

To wrap up the day, the kids took a "crash course" (no pun intended 😉) on the dangers of impaired driving. Using THC impairment goggles and BAC goggles simulating a .17–.20 blood alcohol concentration, they attempted to weave through a cone course and quickly realized just how difficult—and dangerous—it can be. 🚗

Thank you to everyone who helped make today educational, interactive, and fun. We hope each participant left with new knowledge, great memories, and a better understanding of the work our officers do every day! 💙

It's hard to believe, but it's been a whole year since we last introduced our officers on Facebook!😣

Since then, we've welcomed new faces, celebrated retirements, watched officers move into new roles, and experienced plenty of changes along the way. Some of the officers you'll see may be familiar, while others are joining us for the first time.
No matter how long they've been here, each one plays an important role in serving our community.
