The City of Colonial Heights Department of Human Resources (HR) works under the direction of the City Manager, providing services and programs to all departments and the city’s workforce of approximately 245 full-time and various part-time / seasonal staff. Responsibilities of the Human Resources Department include:

• Recruiting and developing the best available employee for each position in the

classified service of the city.

• Maintaining a human resources management program that includes on-going analysis of employee classification and compensation, comprehensive benefits, employment policy development and interpretation, training and development, workers’ compensation, employee relations, and records management.

• Providing general support to various departments and employees as to the processing of disciplinary actions and grievance procedures. We reserve the right to remove 3rd party advertisements and spam.

FIREFIGHTER-EMT (COMMONWEALTH OF VA CERTIFIED):
Applicants MUST CURRENTLY possess the following certifications:
- Unexpired Commonwealth of Virginia certified EMT, A-EMT, Intermediate, or Paramedic certification.
- Virginia Department of Fire Programs Fire Fighter I & II, Hazardous Materials - Operations Level, and EVOC III.
- Formal & structured paramilitary recruit academy completion.

FIREFIGHTER-EMT (NON-CERTIFIED):
- ALL REQUIRED testing (written & physical) will take place by invitation the week of MAY 30 - JUNE 8 for a September 2026 Fire Academy (22-25wks)
