Congratulations to the 14 graduates of our 2026 Fire Academy! 🚒🔥👩🏻‍🚒

Over the past five months, these dedicated volunteers have invested countless hours in classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, and demanding physical fitness preparation. Through their hard work and commitment, they successfully completed Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Wildland Firefighter II training.

These men and women balanced jobs, families, and other responsibilities while preparing to serve our communities. Tonight marks the end of the academy, but only the beginning of their journey in the fire service. We are proud to welcome them into our ranks as highly trained volunteer firefighters.

A sincere thank you to the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy (UFRA) for supporting our academy with specialized training props and resources. We also want to recognize our instructors and mentors for the many hours they dedicated to teaching, guiding, and encouraging this group along the way.

Please join us in congratulating the graduates of the 2026 Fire Academy. We are proud of their accomplishment and excited to see the impact they will make in the communities we serve.

We’re excited to announce the addition of a Type 4 Wildland Engine to the Colorado City Fire Department fleet through the Rural Readiness Program in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management.
This engine brings increased water capacity and improved capabilities, strengthening our response in the wildland–urban interface and supporting both local coverage and regional mutual aid.
We’re grateful for the partnerships that continue to support our mission and the communities we serve. 🚒👩🏻‍🚒🔥

Fire Academy Update

We’re officially halfway through the 2026 Fire Academy, and our 14 recruits continue to work hard and make great progress.

Today’s training focused on vehicle extrication and patient care, where recruits practiced safely removing patients from vehicles using hydraulic rescue tools, often called the Jaws of Life. We also incorporated the MCC EMT class, allowing recruits to train alongside EMT students as they work toward their EMT certification.

If you see these recruits out training in the community, please give them a wave and thank them for their service as they work toward becoming volunteer firefighters and EMTs. We’re proud of the dedication they’re showing as they prepare to serve our community. 🚒

Today we mourn the tragic loss of the Arizona DPS helicopter crew of Ranger 56 who gave their lives in service.

For more than 25 years, the Hildale-Colorado City Fire Department has trained alongside Arizona DPS Aviation. What began as a professional partnership grew into something much deeper. Through countless missions, trainings, and recertifications every 120 days, these men became more than counterparts in the air—they became friends, peers, and mentors.

We honor them by remembering their dedication, their skill, and their unwavering commitment to serving others. We honor them by continuing to train, to learn, and to look after one another—just as they did.

Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, their fellow troopers, the DPS Aviation Unit, and everyone grieving this profound loss. You are not alone. You are part of our family, and always will be.

Rest easy, brothers. We’ll take it from here.

As many of our community members know, we are fortunate to have truly exceptional personnel within our department. Beginning in 2025, we launched a new initiative to formally recognize individuals who consistently go above and beyond our standards of excellence. This year, two individuals exemplified that commitment and proved to be the backbone of our response system.

Lucille Barlow has been named our 2025 EMS Provider of the Year. Lucille has served in EMS since 2001 and has been a certified paramedic for the past seven years. Many in our community recognize the difference her calm presence and compassionate care make during times of need. We are incredibly grateful to have her serving as our EMS Captain, where she leads by example and sets a high standard for the next generation of EMS professionals.

Samuel Y. Barlow Jr. is the recipient of our 2025 Firefighter of the Year Award, an honor he more than deserves. Samuel has been a vital member of our team, known for his reliability and dedication; consistently responding to nearly every call. As a Captain at Station 1, he exemplifies outstanding leadership and brings a wealth of expertise to our department, including certifications as a paramedic, HAZMAT technician, and multiple technical rescue disciplines. In addition, he serves as one of our lead mechanics, dedicating countless hours to maintaining our apparatus and ensuring our units are always ready to respond when our community needs us most.

We are proud to recognize Lucille and Samuel for their unwavering dedication, leadership, and service. Their commitment reflects the very best of our department, and our community is safer because of them. Please join us in congratulating them on these well-earned honors!

This past year has been a long and demanding journey for many of our personnel. We are proud to announce that all seven of our members who participated in a paramedic program last year have successfully earned their National Registry Paramedic certification.

Paramedic education is exceptionally rigorous, requiring over 600 hours of classroom instruction and more than 1,000 clinical hours across a wide range of disciplines. This level of training is comparable to that of a two-year nursing program. Throughout their education, these students gained invaluable experience by rotating through the Emergency Department, Operating Room, ICU, and many other specialties, with the majority of their clinical time spent alongside skilled and experienced paramedics in the field.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication, perseverance, and hard work they have invested to become the best paramedics possible for our community.

All of us here at the Hildale–Colorado City Fire Department wish you a Happy New Year!

We are honored to close out another successful year of serving our community. This year we responded to 1,115 calls for service! None of us can do this alone, and it has taken every bit of our 85 members to ensure we were able to answer every call for service throughout the year.

Our active roster includes a total of 85 personnel, with certifications that include:
• 28 Paramedics
• 21 Advanced EMTs
• 23 Basic EMTs
• 49 Firefighters
• 16 Recruited Personnel

Many of our members are cross-trained in both Fire and EMS disciplines, which is why these numbers overlap and do not add up to 85 individually. Almost all of our roster has some degree of EMS certification. This year 88% of our calls for service were EMS calls. This cross-training allows us to respond more effectively and efficiently to the diverse needs of our community.
Our 16 recruits will begin training this month for EMT and firefighting!

Thank you for your continued support as we look forward to another year of service! As always, expect excellence.

We stand in solidarity with our northern brothers and sisters, in honoring Firefighter Kade Martin. We send our deepest sympathies to the friends and families affected by this. The impact of one person can never be measured but it can always be honored.
