A letter from our Executive Director, Kathy Turzi!
Dear Friends,
As we begin our two-month food drive (March 1 – April 30), I find myself thinking about the families on the reservations we serve. These are communities rooted in faith, family, culture, and resilience. They are strong, generous with what they have, and rich in tradition and humor. And yet, many are facing profound food insecurity.
Across the seven-state region served by One Nation Walking Together, families live in some of the most isolated and economically challenged areas in the country. Many communities are food deserts, where the nearest full grocery store may be hours away. Unemployment rates remain high. Some homes lack running water or electricity.
We share these challenges because we know the strength of the People we serve — and we also know that strength should not mean facing hunger alone.
In my own community, I have seen increasing need at food pantries, neighbors placing small boxes of food in their yards to help one another, and assistance programs being reduced or cut. On many reservations, those options simply do not exist. There are often no nearby pantries to fill the gap. When help comes, it comes from those who choose to step in and care.
That is why we do what we do.
With your support, we pack and ship food boxes that weigh approximately 45 pounds each. Every 45-pound box provides about 60 nourishing meals. That means:
• 60 times a child does not go to bed hungry
• 60 meals that allow an elder to stretch their limited income toward utilities or medicine
• 60 moments of relief for a parent carrying the daily weight of uncertainty
Inside each box are staples that make real meals possible — rice, pasta and sauce, cereal, canned vegetables, and protein-rich meats. These are more than food items. They represent stability, dignity, and care.
Last year, because of your help, we shipped 16,745 pounds of food — providing approximately 22,300 meals to families across the reservations we serve. That is tangible impact. That is compassion in action.
This year, we are asking for nonperishable food donations and financial gifts to help cover the cost of packing and shipping these 45-pound boxes. Shipping alone can be one of our greatest expenses due to the distance and rural locations of the communities we serve. Every dollar helps move hope across the miles.
• A gift of $25 helps cover shipping costs for a food box
• A gift of $50 helps send essential staples for dozens of meals
• A gift of $100 or more multiplies that impact, reaching entire households
When you give, you are not simply donating food.
You are honoring resilience.
You are strengthening families.
You are walking alongside communities with dignity and respect.

Your kindness makes an immediate and measurable difference — and we are deeply grateful for your partnership.
Thank you for standing with us — and for standing with the families who rely on this support more than we often see. Your generosity ensures that hope continues to travel every mile.
With gratitude,
Kathy Turzi, Executive Director
