At Second Home Adult Day Center, we believe that individuals with disabilities deserve opportunities to get out, get involved, make connections, try new things, and HAVE FUN! 🎉

That’s why we’ve put together this Local Community Events Calendar featuring activities and events happening throughout our area for individuals with disabilities. 🗓️✨

Whether it’s a social event, recreational activity, community gathering, educational opportunity, or just a chance to meet new people, we want individuals and families to know what’s available beyond the walls of the day center.

👑💃🕺 A LITTLE LATE… BUT TOO SPECIAL NOT TO SHARE! 💙✨

Back in May, Second Home Adult Day Center hosted a PROM to remember! 🎓👑💐

We may be a little late sharing these pictures, but we couldn’t let this special day go by without celebrating the incredible memories our clients made. ❤️

Our Prom wasn’t just about dressing up and having a good time—it was also an opportunity for our clients to learn, practice, socialize, and build confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

💃 We learned how to slow dance!
🫶 We practiced proper personal space.
🤝 We practiced respectful social interaction.
🗳️ Our clients got to vote for Prom King and Queen.
🍽️ We enjoyed delicious food and treats.
🎉 We enjoyed the decorations, music, laughter, and excitement!

And, of course, we had our very own Prom Royalty! 👑

Congratulations to our Specialized Side royalty! You both looked absolutely amazing! 👑✨

One of the things we love most about experiences like this is that our clients get to practice skills that are important far beyond the walls of Second Home.

Learning how to respect personal space, interact appropriately with others, communicate, make choices, participate in a group setting, and build friendships are all important parts of becoming more confident and independent.

And we believe those skills should be taught in ways that are FUN, meaningful, and memorable. 💙

Our clients didn’t just attend a Prom.

They got to dress up, celebrate, make choices, socialize, learn new skills, laugh with friends, and create memories.

That’s what we mean when we say we want our clients to LIVE their day with us—not simply spend their day with us. 🏠💙

We are thrilled to announce that we are looking to expand our services to include Supportive Community Connections (SCC) by the end of the year! 🌟
What is SCC?
Pi pertains to the DD/SLS (HCBS) waivers, SCC empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate fully and meaningfully in their local communities via community outings.
What does this mean for our community?
Our focus for clients will be on building independence, social skills, communication, decision-making, and everyday confidence through:
🤝 Volunteering & giving back in the community
🎨 Recreation & community events
🛍️ Shopping & life-skills building
📚 Educational community opportunities
💛 Building natural relationships with friends and neighbors in our community

We will ensure that we very SCC community outing positively impacts or clients through learning not only about themselves but their community, engaging, safe, inclusive, structured around life skills, and fun!!!

Our ultimate goal remains person-centered: promoting choice, inclusion, independence, and meaningful everyday participation.

At Second Home LLC, we believe that staying active, connected, and involved in the community is an important part of living a happy and fulfilling life! 🏡❤️

That’s why we are going the extra mile by providing our seniors, families, caregivers, and community members with a monthly calendar of senior and community events happening throughout El Paso County! 📅✨

Our goal is to encourage seniors to continue socializing and enjoying life—not only while participating in activities at Second Home, but also by discovering opportunities to get involved outside of our center.

🪁💙 SOMETIMES, THE BEST DAYS ARE THE ONES WHERE WE JUST LET OUR SPIRITS SOAR! 🌤️🪁

Today at Second Home Adult Day Center, our clients took creativity, teamwork, and a little bit of wind to the park! 💙

But before we could fly our kites, we had to MAKE them! 🎨🪁

Our clients had the opportunity to design and create their own kites, making each one as unique as the person who created it. We love activities like this because they’re about so much more than just the finished product.

They’re about:

✨ Making choices
✨ Expressing creativity
✨ Practicing fine-motor skills
✨ Following directions
✨ Working together
✨ Building confidence
✨ And most importantly… HAVING FUN! 🥰

Then came the best part…

WE TOOK OUR KITES TO THE PARK! 🪁🌳☀️

There is something so special about watching our clients look up and see something they created flying through the sky. The smiles, laughter, excitement, and cheering made the whole day worth it! 💙

At Second Home, we believe our clients deserve opportunities to CREATE, EXPLORE, PLAY, and EXPERIENCE LIFE.

We don’t just want to tell our clients what they can do.

We want to give them opportunities to discover what they CAN do. 💪💙

At Second Home, we believe exceptional employees deserve exceptional recognition, and Rashawna is truly one of a kind! 💜

Rashawna has been part of the Second Home family for over a year, and throughout that time, she has consistently shown what dedication, compassion, and teamwork look like. She has an incredible attendance record, never misses work, and is always willing to go the extra mile for our clients and her team.

As our Activities Coordinator for the entire center, Rashawna pours her heart into creating meaningful experiences for our clients. From planning outings and crafts to organizing special events and activities, she works hard to make sure our clients have opportunities to learn, socialize, have fun, and make memories. 🎨🚌🎉❤️

If that wasn’t enough, Rashawna even shortened her own vacation to come back and help her team! That kind of dedication speaks volumes about the person she is.

🐾🦉🦎 WHEN YOU SAY “ABOVE AND BEYOND,” THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN AT SECOND HOME! 🦁🐍🦔

A few weeks ago we had an EXTRAORDINARY day at Second Home Adult Day Center! 💙

We were thrilled to welcome the amazing team from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo to our center for an incredible hands-on zoology education experience!

Our clients had the opportunity to:
✨ Learn fascinating facts about a variety of animals
✨ Ask questions and engage in meaningful learning
✨ Experience animals up close
✨ Safely touch and interact with some very special animal ambassadors
✨ Create memories that they will be talking about long after today!

At Second Home, we believe that learning doesn’t stop when you become an adult—and meaningful experiences shouldn’t be limited by disability. Every person deserves opportunities to explore, learn, experience something new, and simply have FUN! ❤️

We don’t want our clients to just spend their day with us sitting in a room watching TV.

We want them to LIVE their best days always learning, engaging in scheduled activities, eating chef prepared meals, and productive socialization with us.

That means bringing unique experiences directly to our center, creating opportunities for discovery, encouraging curiosity, and finding new ways to make every day meaningful. 🌎💙

This is what makes Second Home so special.

We are constantly asking ourselves:

“What can we do to make our clients’ lives richer, happier, and more meaningful?”

Sometimes the answer is a classroom.
Sometimes it’s a garden. 🌱
