As the city’s legislative body, we set policies, establish tax rates, pass governing ordinances and resolutions and serve as the governing board of Colorado Springs Utilities. As the legislative branch of government for the city of Colorado Springs, council members are elected to four-year terms and are paid an annual stipend of $6,250. They are responsible for:

-Appointing the city auditor, exec

utive director of the Colorado Springs

-Utilities and the council administrator

-Approving the city budget

-Establishing tax rates

-Serving as the governing board of the Colorado Springs Utilities

-Setting policies and passing ordinances and resolutions to govern the city

-Performing the Mayor’s duties in his/her absence (President of council)

Councilmember Rainey gave a speech highlighting current day state of affairs and the importance of treating each other with respect and dignity.

"Civility does not mean surrendering our principles. It means defending those principles without losing our respect for one another", said Councilmember Rainey.

This week at the City Council Regular Meeting, Allen Beauchamp was the latest recipient of the Community Recognition Program.

Councilmember David Leinweber selected Allen Beauchamp for his exceptional commitment to expanding access, joy, and connectivity within the Colorado Springs park and urban trail system.

Allen has demonstrated extraordinary community leadership through decades of work centered on adaptive cycling, trail connectivity, outdoor equity, and multi modal transportation, inspiring thousands across our community to discover the freedom and joy of bicycling.

Allen’s work reflects not only dedication but also heart and perseverance; having led well over one hundred bike rides for elected officials, people with disabilities, veterans, schoolchildren, and residents of all ages, each experiencing their community from the seat of a bicycle through Allen’s generous guidance and enthusiasm, earning him the affectionate title of our “Pied Piper on a Bicycle.”

Today Councilmember Brandy Williams shared information about expanding security services on the South Nevada Avenue corridor, from Interstate 25 south to E. Cheyenne Road.

City Council voted on Tuesday to allocate an additional $458,000 from the Retail Ma*****na Tax Fund for security services in the South Nevada area, supplementing $300,000 already appropriated, for a total of $758,000 dedicated to targeted safety and presence along South Nevada and surrounding blocks.
