As the city’s legislative body, we set policies, establish tax rates, pass governing ordinances and resolutions and serve as the governing board of Colorado Springs Utilities. As the legislative branch of government for the city of Colorado Springs, council members are elected to four-year terms and are paid an annual stipend of $6,250. They are responsible for:

-Appointing the city auditor, executive director of the Colorado Springs

-Utilities and the council administrator

-Approving the city budget

-Establishing tax rates

-Serving as the governing board of the Colorado Springs Utilities

-Setting policies and passing ordinances and resolutions to govern the city

-Performing the Mayor’s duties in his/her absence (President of council)

This week, Council adopted a Resolution brought forward by District 1 Councilmember Dave Donelson recognizing October 2026 as Police Appreciation Month. The Resolution honors the bravery, dedication, and daily sacrifices of Colorado Springs police officers, emphasizing their vital role in protecting the rights, safety, and well‑being of the community. It also encourages all residents to show gratitude for the service and commitment of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

This week Council recognized CJ Moore for her decades of leadership, philanthropy, and dedication to strengthening the Colorado Springs community. CJ has championed community well‑being, built impactful partnerships, and empowered countless individuals through her 21 years of service with Kaiser Permanente. At‑Large Councilmember and Council President Lynette Crow‑Iverson brought her recognition forward through the Community Recognition Program. Congratulations, CJ!

Councilmembers Kimberly Gold (D4), David Leinweber (At Large), and Roland Rainey (D6) joined Colorado Governor Jared Polis and other leaders of our City, business, higher education, and aerospace sectors for the announcement of the bid for Colorado Springs to be the future home of the United States Space Academy.

The Governor's selection of Colorado Springs underscores our City's standing as a national hub for aerospace, defense, and space innovation. If selected, the first cohort of Academy students could begin their journey in Colorado Springs as early as 2028, with the permanent Academy campus opening in 2031.

This week, District 4 Councilmember Kimberly Gold delivered opening remarks, welcoming attendees to Colorado Springs for the 2026 LIDERAMOS National Leadership Symposium.

The event brought leadership program directors and emerging leaders from across the country to Colorado Springs for three days of collaboration, learning, and community-building.

In her welcome, Councilmember Gold highlighted the importance of strong, connected leadership in shaping healthy and resilient communities.

Her remarks helped set the tone for a national gathering focused on growth, partnership, and collective impact.
