We're very disappointed that we won't be able to host our annual summer picnic this year - it has always been a favorite for staff and families!
To remind us of these times, this week's challenge will be to create a dish that you would have brought to the picnic. This can be a side dish, a dessert, or anything that you would want to eat at a group picnic! Feel free to eat your dishes 'picnic style' with your families or providers.
Let us know how it went by sending us a picture or written log in a private message!

This was sent to us by the Founder of Youth Rescue and Transition and Career Academy (online schooling) and we thought it would be helpful to pass along to families:

Do you have a young adult at home? They may be struggling with the COVID-19 crisis and having physical or emotional symptoms. Here is a checklist to consider.

Does Your Young Adult Show any of These Signs?

____sleeping all day, staying up all night.

____shutting down, not talking to family members.

____eating unhealthy snacks

____staying closed up in the bedroom.

____taking in too much negative information.

____feeling “keyed up”

____feeling on edge

____irritability

____difficulty concentrating

____restlessness

____unexplained outbursts

____frequent headaches, including migraines

____digestive Problems

____excessive fatigue

These symptoms can be harmful to one’s physical or emotional health.

Here are some approaches you can try and promote shaping the rhythm of the day or restoring physical or emotional health.

Be Proactive

Set Clear Expectations— This helps youth build a routine with rhythm to their day.

Time for exercise or movement (high physical energy)

Time for reading or studying (low physical energy), but mentally and emotionally taking in information

Time for creating, such as, playing an instrument, writing a story, or doing artwork (high inspirational or fun energy).

Time for leisure (medium fun energy), spending quality time with family members playing cards or board games,

Time to contribute value to the entire household, such as, washing dishes, taking part in making dinner, or mowing the lawn (medium energy).

Allow Your Young Adult to Worry- avoid telling your young adult to not worry.

Give your young adult time with you each day to vent worries and brainstorm solutions together.

Practice Reframing

Set time aside to practice positive reframing to promote and empower your young adult to act upon their anxious thoughts.

Empathize Often

Send the message to the young adult that they are being validated for their emotions and they are not alone.

These are just a few ideas. Think of your own and share your comments and ideas with me and others.

Alright quarantiners, our third challenge is here!
This challenge will last the whole week. Although we are confined to our homes, it is still important to maintain structure. To assist with this, we’re challenging you to create your own schedule for the week. At the end of the week, see how many days you followed the schedule.
Things that can be included in your schedule:
-Taking a shower
-Exercise
-Times to go to sleep and wake up
-Healthy eating
-Household chores/cleaning up after yourself
-Anything else that you like/want to do

You can send in your schedule at any point during the week, or let us know next weekend how it went. Have fun planning!

It's time for Challenge #1!
Our first challenge is for you to make your own breakfast. You can use the stove, oven, microwave, toaster, blender, or make something that doesn't require cooking.
We'd love to see your recipes and hear about how it tasted!

Please submit a picture, video and/or journal of your experience in a private message through Facebook by Tuesday, March 24th for a chance to win a prize!

03/20/2020

Hello Everyone,
It's Friday, meaning that we've made it through one whole week of quarantine! In just that one week, we are already missing having face to face interactions with our wonderful clients so much! You should have all been notified by now that we are planning to extend our closure until April 6th.

During this time that we'll be closed, we would love to stay in contact with our clients and encourage everyone to be active within their homes. We will be posting challenges, either weekly or bi-weekly, for our clients to participate in. Clients can either send in pictures of the completed challenges, write about it, take a video, or any combination of the three to show that the challenge was completed. These should be sent in a private message to our page. Everyone who participates in the challenges will receive a prize when they return to program. Our peer partners will be picking a winner for each challenge and the winners will receive a grand prize!
To ensure that you don't miss any challenges:
-Make sure that you like and follow our page
-Make sure that your notifications are switched to 'on' so that you'll see the challenges right when they're posted
-Share the challenges with your friends and family so that you can plan together and get support if you need it

We're looking forward to seeing all of your responses. Stay tuned for the first challenge that will be coming your way soon!
