Exciting News! Last night, the House Transportation and Local Government committee advanced HB24-1304, my bill to roll back mandatory parking minimums in many parts of the state, and tasks the Department of Transportation with developing data and tool sets that will improve parking in our communities.
There is no such thing as free parking. These mandates drive up construction costs and limit our ability to create abundant choices in housing and transportation. Forcing over-supply of parking also drives up vehicle miles traveled and contributes to higher emissions. Repealing them will help us meet Colorado's ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals.
Many thanks to my fellow House prime sponsor Rep. Woodrow and all our hardworking stakeholders, both for and against the bill, who've contributed to such a robust dialogue on this issue.
