This morning Captain Justin Becker was in Levenworth, WA to take on the Levenworth Firefighter Challege.
What does this challege look like??
✅️6.2 miles (10k) up a trail on a mountain. ✅️Approximately 1900ft of elevation gain and then back down the other side.

This year he chose to do the Arduous division which required full wildland fire PPE including NFPA approved wildland boots and 25 # weight and a tool.

We are happy to report he completed this in 1 hour 37 minutes (unofficial time).

Congratulations Captain Becker!

Attached are start (he is in the front in the red helmet) and finish pictures sent to us from him.

The smoke that is visible to the southwest of Colton/Uniontown in the Steptoe Canyon area is coming from the Clayton fire in Garfield County. District 14 personnel just returned from a smoke investigation call in that area and there is currently no active fire on our side of the river.

Last night we hosted Life Flight for a landing zone and helicopter safety class. It's an opportunity for us to collaborate and train with a great resource in our area, when seconds don't count, so we can be at our best when seconds do count.

Thank you to the Lewiston Life flight crew for joining us, updating us on some new things and refreshing us on things we don't do every day (thankfully).

A burn ban is already in effect for a portion of our Fire District.

On June 10th Fire District 14 Chief Jason Reisenauer placed a burn ban into effect for all canyon ground in the fire district along the Snake River from Wawawai Canyon to the Idaho State line. The burn ban conincides with the Corp of Engineers burn ban on the Snake River corridor that runs from June 10th to October 10th.

The burn ban will remain in effect thru October 10th or until further notice.

***Level 1 Evacuation lifted***

At this time after evaluating the situation in Garfield County county we are lifting the Level 1 Evacuation put in place yesterday for Wawawai Road and Rimrock Road.

Several things to keep in mind however.
1) There was not a good soaking rain in the area of the fire.
2) There is still active fire burning on the Garfield County side across from Wawawai Landing and Granite Point.
3) Winds are not forecasted to produce long range spotting however, if winds do change outside of the forecast, this Evacuation notice could be put back in place.
