Rainy Days Ahead in Colton – Get Your Sandbags Now

A strong storm is expected to reach Southern California on Thursday night and continue through Monday or Tuesday. Forecasts show that Colton and surrounding areas could get up to three inches of rain, with heavier rainfall possible in nearby hills. The heaviest rain is expected on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15.

Flooding may occur in low-lying areas. Do not drive through standing water.

Free sand and empty sandbags are available to Colton residents at the following self-serve locations:
• Colton Public Works Yard – 160 S. 10th Street. Sand/bags are out front of facility
• Fire Station (Station 214) – 1151 S. Meadow Lane
• Fire Station (Station 211) – 303 East E Street
• At Fire Stations, sand/sandbags are behind locked gates, so can only be accessed if crews are at the station.
Please bring your own shovel and gloves.

City crews are ready to respond to any storm-related issues such as flooding, fallen trees or branches, and traffic signal problems. Once the rain clears, staff will focus on repairing potholes and other storm damage around the city.

To report flooding, downed trees, or malfunctioning signals, call the Colton Police non-emergency line at (909) 370-5000.

For emergencies such as downed power lines, call 9-1-1 immediately.

After the storm, residents can report routine issues through the City of Colton website at www.coltonca.gov, or by calling the Public Works Department at (909) 370-5065.

Please drive carefully! Slow down, allow extra time for travel, and never drive through standing water.

Stay safe & dry, Colton!

The City of Colton has been awarded top honors in the 2025 U.S. Mayors’ Climate Protection Awards for its innovative Urban Heat Resilience Program.

Under the leadership of Mayor Frank J. Navarro, and with the dedicated work of Colton Electric, Water, and Sustainability staff, the program addresses extreme heat through tree planting, energy and water conservation, and long-term climate planning.

Help Us Plan for a Safer Colton

Share Your Input on the City’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

The City of Colton is committed to protecting our residents, businesses, and neighborhoods from the impacts of natural and human-caused hazards. As part of this commitment, we are updating our Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP)—a strategic document that identifies risks such as wildfires, earthquakes, floods, extreme heat, and other potential emergencies.

This plan outlines actions the City can take to reduce long-term risks and improve our resilience before disaster strikes. A strong and well-informed LHMP not only enhances public safety but also ensures that Colton remains eligible for important federal and state disaster relief funding.

Why Your Voice Matters

A successful plan reflects the values, experiences, and concerns of the people it’s designed to protect. That’s why we’re asking you—our residents, business owners, and community stakeholders—to share your perspective.

By completing a brief survey, you can help us better understand:
--What hazards concern you the most
--How prepared you feel
--What improvements you’d like to see
--How we can best communicate and support you during emergencies

Your feedback will directly inform the development of the updated plan and help prioritize projects that make Colton a safer, stronger community.

We are excited to announce an update to our street sweeping schedule to better serve our community! Starting on May 1, 2024, we are implementing an alternate-day street sweeping schedule to help residents find parking more easily and ensure our streets stay clean.

Here's what you need to know:

• Alternate Sweeping Days: Street sweeping trucks will now sweep on alternate days, allowing residents to park on the opposite side of the street. This change will enable you to keep your car parked without interruption while we work to maintain clean streets.

• New Sweeping Schedule: One side of the street will follow the old schedule, while the other side will adopt the new sweeping day schedule. This approach provides flexibility and convenience for you.

• Installation of New Signs: City crews will be installing the new schedule signs on affected streets. These signs will indicate the sweeping days and times for each side of the street.

• Check the Signs: To stay up-to-date with the new schedule, please check the posted signs at the beginning of each street. They contain important information about the sweeping schedule specific to your area.

• Your Cooperation is Appreciated: By adhering to the new sweeping schedule and parking guidelines, you help us keep our community looking its best. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we make this important update!

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact 909-370-5065. We appreciate your support in keeping our streets clean and welcoming for everyone.
