August was another busy month at HSWC, and we’re so grateful for everyone who continues to show up for the animals in our care. As we head into September, there are several ways you can help us keep that momentum going!

We have a few cats around here who apparently forgot to put their tongues away.

Meet some of our resident blep experts.

Maybe they’re deep in thought. Maybe they’re practicing their most adorable facial expressions. Or maybe their tongues just have a mind of their own.

Whatever the reason, we think they’re pretty perfect exactly as they are.

There’s just something special about sibling love.

Sometimes it’s two kittens curled up together like they’ve never known a world without each other.

Sometimes it’s five siblings piled into one ridiculously adorable heap.

And sometimes it’s grown-up siblings who still choose to nap, cuddle, and spend their days side by side.

One sibling or five. Kitten or adult. The bond may look a little different, but the love is always there.

Here’s to the comfort of having someone who has been there from the beginning.

Race day is coming — and there’s a deadline you don’t want to miss!

September 4 is the pre-registration deadline to guarantee your 5K Fun Run/Walk for Paws shirt on race day.

Our 10th Annual 5K is Saturday, September 19 at Morsches Park.

Runners take off at 8:00 a.m.
Walkers take off at 9:00 a.m.
Entry fee is $35.

So if you've been thinking, “I should probably sign up for that…”

A NEW RESOURCE FOR FOUND PETS IN OUR COMMUNITY
We’re excited to officially announce a new resource now available at the Humane Society of Whitley County: a public microchip scanner for found dogs and cats.
We know how stressful it can be to find a pet who appears to be lost or stray. One of the most important things we can do is determine whether that animal has a microchip—and now, our community has an easy way to do just that.
Our goal is simple: help more lost pets get home.
A microchip can be the missing link between a frightened animal and the family searching for them. By making a scanner available to the public, we hope to make it easier and faster to identify lost pets, connect them with their families, and reduce the number of animals who ultimately need to enter a shelter.
The scanner is located outside our facility and is available for use when we are closed. We’ve also provided information and resources to help guide you through the next steps if a chip is found.
This project is about more than a scanner. It’s about giving our community another tool to keep lost pets out of the shelter and get them where they belong—home.
We’re grateful to be able to offer this resource to our community, and we hope it helps reunite many lost pets with the families who are looking for them.
Found a pet? Check for a chip. It could be the key to getting them home.
Please do not leave animals unattended outside the shelter. Our property is monitored by cameras.
