Today at approximately 11 am, a hazardous materials incident occurred at DOT America. Columbia City Fire Department responded to the scene to address the release and ensure the situation was contained.

Employees involved in the incident were transported to Parkview Whitley Hospital for decontamination and medical evaluation. The employees will continue to be monitored as a precaution.

Assistance was provided by Columbia Township Fire Dept., Whitley County Health Department, Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Whitley County Emergency Management.

Parkview Whitley Hospital has been able to maintain normal operations while supporting the response. The hospital is currently experiencing a phone outage. If you need to reach Parkview Whitley Hospital, please call 800-325-1338.

THE WHITLEY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS SEEKING INFORMATION ON A VEHICLE CRASH INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN

On 8/17/2026 at 8:30PM, Whitley County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch received a 911 call from an individual stating a woman was walking westbound on county road 900 South, near the intersection of county road 500 East in Whitley County. The woman stated she was struck by a vehicle on 900 South and sustained serious injuries. The vehicle involved in the crash did not remain at the crash scene. Information has been very limited to officers investigating the incident. The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public in determining the vehicle and driver involved in this incident.

Over the winter, our office began looking at different weather services to enhance our ability to monitor storms, assess damage potential, and provide better information and support to our stakeholders when they have questions.

After multiple trials, demos, and plenty of research, we ultimately decided to partner with BamWX back in March.
