To develop, train, and prepare interested young adults ages 14 - 21 for a career in fire fighting and emergency medical servies.

The purpose of Fire Explorer Post #3778 is to develop, train, and prepare interested young adults for a career in fire fighting and emergency medical services and to provide basic types of assistance to the Columbia Heights Fire Department during and immediately after firefighting and emergency medical activities. It is our hope the Cadet will become familiar with the role the Fire Department play

s in community life, how it is structured, and how it functions during normal and emergency activities. It is also our hope that the Cadet understands how the city government is structured, how departments are funded, and how the individual plays an important role in city governmental activities.

On Wednesday, June 3rd, Columbia Heights Fire had a badge pinning ceremony for 2 new captains and 2 new full-time firefighters. 3 of the 4 are former Explorers and the other is one of our current Explorer advisors. Congratulations to all on their promotions!

Columbia Heights Explorers have been taking advantage of the good weather. Last Tuesday, they continued to work on ladders. They'll spend the summer months focused on fire skills and during winter we focus more on EMS skills.

Hey everyone. The Firefighters' Association doesn't have a page, so the Explorers are posting this on behalf of the Association. The Association is selling Tony Cuzzupe memorial challenge coins. Coins are $15 each. Complete the Google form linked in the comments and pay by credit card, cash, or check by May 30th. Coins will be available for pickup at the Pancake breakfast on June 28th or at the Fire Department. Please reach out with questions. Thanks!

It's been a while since we've posted but that doesn't mean our Explorers haven't been busy. A couple weeks ago they had the opportunity to visit Anoka County Dispatch. Besides regular training this year, they also helped with cleaning up Highway 47 (with the Columbia Heights Lions), toured a fire truck manufacturer with the Rum River Fire Explorers, and practiced Ice Rescue with the Fridley Fire Explorers.

Santa's waiting at Murzyn Hall. Pancake breakfast is happening until noon. $10 for adults, $5 for kids 4-11, kids under 4 are free. Pancakes, eggs, sausages, and plenty of toppings.

Problem-solving, and doing it quickly, effectively, and under pressure, is a very important skill for firefighters to develop. Our Explorers practiced this a couple weeks ago. Working in teams, they had 20 minutes to develop a plan to drop a jar from approximately 30 feet without losing the contents of the jar. Both teams worked well together and devised different solutions to the problem.

Our Explorers have been BUSY over the past month. They went to the MN Fallen Firefighter Memorial, helped with our Open House, toured MAC Fire (thanks MAC Fire for letting us visit!), helped with Truck or Treat, learned CPR, and worked on search skills. We think we have a pretty awesome group right now.

We're one week away from the Jamboree Pancake Breakfast. We're finalizing our supply list - we have real maple syrup, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream, sugar free syrup - what else are we missing?

Our Explorers had the opportunity Sunday to go to the East Metro Training Facility for a day of training with other posts. They worked well together as a team and tried some new things.
