Historic preservation is ALL of it --> the buildings, the brickwork, the storefronts, and especially the historic signs that define a downtown's identity.

In Walterboro, the Novit's sign has been fully restored -- as has the building. This image shows the sign & building pre-restoration. Head to Historic Downtown Walterboro to see the new look and explore the new businesses within.

Downtown revitalization and tourism go hand in hand.

Tourism partners help share the story of downtowns by connecting visitors to the unique experiences, local businesses, historic places, and community culture that make each historic commercial district special.

From promoting festivals and events to supporting destination marketing and visitor engagement, these partnerships help bring energy and economic activity into downtown districts.

Main Street programs work alongside tourism organizations to create places people want to explore, experience, and return to again and again.

Strong tourism partnerships help turn downtowns into destinations. 📍

As we wrap up Historic Preservation month, we have to give a shoutout to Laurens County for the meticulous preservation of the historic county courthouse on the square.

The ribbon cutting on this extensive 3-year renovation was held on May 15. The courthouse is now a beautiful reminder of the community's past and restored for future generations. The courthouse is the backdrop for many events by Main Street Laurens and the City of Laurens.

For more photos from the event and of the interior of the courthouse check out this story from Laurens County BUZZ 👉https://bit.ly/43zHk08

💡Big impact happens on Main Street.

In 2025, 20 Main Street South Carolina communities celebrated $196 million in public and private dollars reinvested in their downtowns.

From restored buildings and new business growth to infrastructure improvements, this is a powerful reflection of the confidence in our downtowns and the people who make them thrive.

📸 The Marshall Building renovations in downtown Lancaster, SC is one example of these projects revitalizing our downtowns.

The focus was centered on formalizing and strengthening the systems behind downtown revitalization ➡ leadership, partnerships, accountability, strategic planning, and preservation-based economic development.

Communities that continue investing in learning, alignment, and long-term vision build stronger momentum over time.
