Join our professional learning community on the Child Outcomes Summary (COS)! Starting this year, OSES will consider district percentages for COS as part of district determinations. Participants in our professional community will use discussion and module-based activities using the Child Outcomes Summary Online Learning Module to explore the three early childhood outcomes, practice using the COS-decision making process to determine accurate outcome ratings, and complete the Child Outcomes Summary Knowledge Check.

At last month’s United for Every Child Conference, we were thrilled to recognize Georgetown County School District as the 2026 Growing Strong District Distinction recipient!

This distinction honors school districts that demonstrate a deep commitment to building strong foundations to improve outcomes for young children and families across South Carolina.

Over the past several years, Georgetown County School District has demonstrated dedication and intentionality in strengthening high-quality, inclusive early childhood practices. We are proud of their collaborative leadership, investment in professional learning, strong community partnerships, and thoughtful use of data and reflection to guide continuous improvement. Their team exemplifies the spirit of “Growing Strong” through sustained efforts to build systems that support meaningful inclusion and improve experiences for young children and families throughout their community.

The day before United for Every Child: Inclusion and the Pyramid Model in Action, we welcomed leaders committed to advancing developmentally appropriate discipline in early childhood settings.

Our Preschool Discipline: Learning from Lived Experiences pre-conference session featured greetings from USC College of Education Dean Thomas Hodges; a powerful call to advocacy from Alexander Campbell; and a closing panel with Michael Leach, Jena Martin, Jennifer Rainville, and Kimberly Tissot.

Thank you to Family Connection of South Carolina, South Carolina Appleseed Legal Justice Center, Able South Carolina, and University of South Carolina College of Education!

We are deeply grateful to our presenter and panelists for sharing their expertise—and, most importantly, their lived experiences—to help move South Carolina toward ending harmful exclusionary discipline practices in preschool.
