Peace Through Action
Essential Skills for Group Dialogue
šŸ“… 4/30/26 @ 7:00 PM ET

Join them for this free virtual event. Group conversations matter—for workplaces, communities, and public life—but they can easily become tense, uneven, or unproductive. This session introduces a practical way to understand what’s happening in group dialogue and how to participate more effectively.

Participants will learn to recognize key conversational dynamics and practice small, intentional ways to influence the tone, participation, and direction of a discussion—even without a formal leadership role. Through realistic scenarios, guided reflection, and interactive practice, participants leave with language and tools they can use right away to support more constructive conversations.

April is Fair Housing Month! šŸ The South Carolina Fair Housing Law makes it illegal to discriminate in housing based on a person’s race, color, religion national origin, s*x familial status (protects households with children under the age of 18 and disability.

These categories are known as protective classes. The South Carolina Fair Housing Act applies to almost all housing types, including private homes, apartments, nursing homes, dormitories, mobile home parks, and land use. It is illegal to discriminate against a protective class in renting, buying appraisals insurance and mortgage lending.

If you believe you have been discriminated against because of your protective class, call the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission at 1-800-521-0725.

Thank you to the Columbia Fireflies for having SCHAC participate as a vendor at their Sensory Safe Sunday game last weekend! This special game was designed to be more sensory friendly, with a quiet zone, reduced speaker volume, and lowered video board lighting. State agencies and nonprofits were able to provide resources and services to those attending the game.

What a great way to connect with the community! ⚾

April is Fair Housing Month! šŸ  The Fair Housing Act was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on April 11, 1968, shortly after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. The Fair Housing Act ensures that all Americans, regardless of race, s*x, national origin, religion, disability, familial status, or color, have the same rights and privileges in accessing housing opportunities.

The South Carolina Fair Housing Law was passed in 1989, with enforcement authority granted to the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission. The South Carolina Fair Housing Law mirrors the United States Fair Housing Act. During April, the Commission honors Fair Housing Month by raising awareness of the Fair Housing Law and encouraging activities to prevent discriminatory housing practices.

If you believe you have been discriminated against in violation of the South Carolina Fair Housing Law, call the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission at 1-800-521-0725. ā˜Žļø
