Anderson County, S.C. recently unveiled the upgraded amphitheater at Green Pond Landing following a major makeover. With support from Undiscovered SC grant funding, the county’s premier fishing tournament facility received important power and lighting upgrades.

These enhancements make the venue even more versatile—ready to host concerts, community events, and live performances—while remaining a favorite hub for tournament fishing.

Listening isn’t just a good conversational skill — it’s essential to building strong communities and strong county governments.

SCAC President and Chesterfield County Council Chairwoman Mary D. Anderson recently joined SCETV and Public Radio’s Local News Outreach Tour as it stopped in her hometown of Cheraw. The tour focused on hearing directly from residents across Chesterfield, Dillon and Marlboro counties.

Mary summed it up beautifully: “When we listen to our constituents and to one another, we tell our counties’ stories and build a stronger future for South Carolina.”

She shares more reflections from the listening tour in the latest issue of County Focus magazine. 🔗 https://countyfocus.mydigitalpublication.com/county-focus-spring-2026/page-3

We enjoyed connecting with dedicated public servants at the recent South Carolina City and County Management Association (SCCCMA) meeting.

Our Governmental Affairs Director Owen McBride and Deputy Director John Wienges Jr. provided a recap of the 2026 legislative session, highlighting key decisions impacting counties.

We also gained valuable, practical insights from county leaders including:

York County SC Assistant County Manager David Garner on advancing AI to enhance service delivery

Georgetown County, S.C. Administrator Angela Christian and Assistant County Administrators Brandon Ellis and Carla Harvey on building resilience through workforce development, technology, and community engagement

Florence County Government Administrator Kevin Yokim on leadership development initiatives

Kudos to Pickens County SC Ken Roper for his outstanding leadership as president of the SC County Managers, Administrators and Supervisors this past year, and congratulations to Aiken County Government Administrator Brian Sanders, who will lead SCCMA as president of the organization for the upcoming term.

We appreciate the chance to learn from so many remarkable leaders and support the important work happening in county government across South Carolina.

Counties across South Carolina are growing — and with that growth comes the need to strengthen and expand local infrastructure.

The Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) is partnering with counties and utilities to support the improvements that make sustainable growth possible.

Through the new Viability Improvement Program, RIA offers technical assistance and grant funding to help public water and sewer utilities address long‑term viability challenges and build a stronger future for their communities.

The application deadline is approaching! You can learn how to apply in the latest issue of County Focus magazine. 🔗 https://countyfocus.mydigitalpublication.com/county-focus-spring-2026/page-17
