🤜🏽🤛🏿Today marks the start of Kwanzaa, the powerful celebration of Blackness created in 1966 to honor our ancestral roots. The name comes from a Swahili phrase meaning "first fruits" and each night of the weeklong celebration has a Swahili name recognizing a specific principle of Kwanzaa.

The first night of Kwanzaa is Umoja, the Swahili word for unity. We know that united we are stronger and can have more impact than when we are divided or isolated.
