PLEASE SHARE!!

Ward 5 Volunteer Fire Department in Columbia, LA is looking for a Sponsor to cover the fees for our Part 107 class to get my Commercial Drone Liscence, so we can utilize our drone during brush and wildland fires, to better find hot spots, locate, pinpoint and reduce time spent chasing and hunting down fires within thick brush, creating a faster response and possibly aid in fire suppression and readiness by getting a birds eye view! We currently have a drone ready to go, this is the last step to getting legal and ready to fly! Any donations will go directly to the Department, and a tax form will be provided so you can write it off on taxes. The current Form 107 fee is $175. This includes the course, testing, and certification.

If you would like to donate for other things, such as drone accessories, other training, ect, we greatly appreciate it as well!

Message me for any donations or questions/concerns.

On the night August 28th, 2023, our Asst. Chief along with the The Chief of Spencer/West Sterlington Volunteer Fire Department made our way to Lions Camp Rd in Vernon Parish to assist with a wildfire they had been trying to contain, along with 40 cases of water thanks to a few private donators, and Clarks Volunteer Fire Department for 30 of those cases. We spent roughly 12 hours assisting where we could. Seeing other stations from across the country to aid and assist was a blessing in it's own. We pray for safety amungst our fellow first responders as they still battle and contain some wildfires within our beautiful State. Please keep in mind that yes, it's humid outside, but there IS still a burn ban! Please use your head this Labor day, and be aware of your surroundings.

🚨REMINDER-- As of 8/25/23🚨

UPDATE: STATEWIDE BURN BAN ISSUED DUE TO CONCERNING DRY CONDITIONS
Exceptions Removed Following Increased Fire Danger

BATON ROUGE (August 25, 2023)- Due to an increase in fire danger across Louisiana, the previous burn ban order issued August 7th has been rescinded and reissued with an update to remove the ability for exceptions to be granted by local authorities.
This new burn ban order by State Fire Marshal Dan Wallis, in collaboration with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, in effect as of August 25, 2023, at 12 p.m., prohibits ALL private burning, with no limitations, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1602. This order shall remain in effect until rescinded.

This updated burn ban order coincides with a separate burn ban order issued by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry prohibiting all agricultural burning including but not limited to prescribed burning.

The already extremely dry conditions statewide, and the concern over first responder safety in these dangerously high temperatures, have worsened as wildfires spread across Louisiana and significant rain relief remains elusive in weather forecasts.
Violation of this burn ban order could result in civil and/or criminal penalties.

High likelihood you will smell smoke today. It will smell like woods burning. It's very likely that the smoke is not originating from within Caldwell Parish. The wind is out of the south right now and parishes south of us have been battling some pretty big wildfires.

💨If you smell smoke, don't be overly alarmed.😱

🔥If you see flames, call 911 immediately.⚠️

Bertha has begun the transformation from farm truck to fire and rescue! From putting her badges on yesterday, to countless hours of wiring up her light bar and siren, all we are waiting on now is her skid equipment. Shes almost there thankfully. Video of the lights in comments 👀

⚠️⚠️⚠️ATTENTION! ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Ward 5 Volunteer Fire Department in Caldwell Parrish is in search of a 3/4 - 1 ton truck to be converted into a brush truck! Trans and engine must be good, can need minor engine work. This is a great opportunity to write off that old work truck sitting behind your shop on your taxes! Year , make, and model isnt a concern.

By statistics, Ward 5 has the leading timberland coverage in our area, with a 10-1 ratio for brush fires compared to structure fires. So it is crucial that we get something in the works as soon as possible.

If you or someone you know may have something like stated above, please give me a call!
