What do you do with a bassoonist in the marching band? Make them a Drum Major! The 282D Army Bandโ€™s sole bassoonist, Sgt Sydney Seed, has taken the mace into her own hands and continues the tradition of outstanding leadership the NCO Corps and the Army Bands build within its ranks.

Drum Majors do more than lead the band in ceremonial formations - they also train our musicians on marching fundamentals. Thank you Sgt Seed for setting the standard and representing the best of our ranks!

Members of the 282D Army Band were recently recognized for their contributions to an Army-wide Su***de Prevention musical project. Staff Sgt. Garnett, Staff Sgt. Katsiyisannis, and Cpl. Salinas contributed to this new musical album, conceived and produced by Sgt. 1st Class Todd Freeman at .S. Army Civil Affairs & Psychological Operations Command (Airborne). Our song on the album "Silent Battles" caught the attention of Cmd. Sgt. Maj Matt Labarbara, a previous member of the 100th Army Band at Ft. Knox (along with Sgt. 1st Class Freeman and Staff Sgt. Garnett). He was impressed enough to send us some lucky horseshoes, representative of his (and Garnett's) home state of Kentucky.

We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an important Army initiative and to collaborate with other musicians around the country.

Happy Monday everyone! The 282D Army Band is proud to congratulate Staff Sgt. Brooke Hendricks for receiving the Col. Finley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician Award for 2025!

The Col. Hamilton Award is presented exclusively to members of U.S. military bands across all branches of service. Each band can only nominate one member per year to receive the award. To be eligible, military musicians must "Be an outstanding musician demonstrating excellence in both solo and ensemble performance, or in a music-support role with exceptional technical skill and mission value; display exceptional leadership qualities; and
display great potential for future outstanding service."

Staff Sgt. Hendricks checks all of these boxes and then some. We are very fortunate to have a leader like her as a member of our band. Victory Starts Here!

The 282D Army Band sends congratulations to Spc. Shane Starman for a job well done! Spc. Starman recently won the Fort Jackson Headquarters & Headquarters Battalion Soldier of the Month competition board. He will now be slated to compete in a higher echelon competition board in the coming months, and in the mean time he's earned bragging rights for our unit! Thanks to his efforts, the band was proud to hang a "Soldier of the Month" streamer from our unit's guidon, and we will continue to display it as long as Soldiers from our company continue to win their boards!

Spc. Starman was also presented with an Army Achievement Medal for his superior dedication. Join us in congratulating this outstanding Soldier and musician!
