Meet Lillian Holmes!
Since 2011, Dr. Holmes has demonstrated a deep and sustained commitment to civic engagement and American politics. She was unanimously selected by the Chicago Campaign Committee as a 2011 Obama Fellow–Organizing for America, completing six weeks of intensive campaign training. Over the years, she has held numerous state and local leadership roles, voluntarily supporting political candidates and elected officials. Dr. Holmes has hosted political and fundraising events in her Columbia, Maryland home and has led voter registration drives, phone banking, canvassing, and Get Out the Vote initiatives across the state and Virginia. She was the invited guest of her congressman at President Obama’s 2014 State of the Union Address and represented Howard County at the White House during the President’s official welcome of French President François Hollande. Her leadership includes serving as Co‑Chair of the Howard County Democratic Party (2016) and as a member of the Maryland Presidential Electoral College (2016). She received the Howard County Democratic Central Committee’s Wendy Fiedler Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. Dr. Holmes has continued her service through community events, advocacy for publicly funded elections, and her appointment to the Howard County Citizens’ Election Fund Commission (2019). She remains active in national elections and serves as Advisory President of Common Cause Maryland.
