The 81st Readiness Division celebrated the opening of its newest Equipment Concentration Site (ECS) at Camp Shelby, Mississippi this week. This new multi-million dollar facility will help drive readiness for units across the southeast. Today, we pause to honor and remember the ultimate sacrifice of SGT Arthur S. Mastrapa, who gave his life in service to our nation on June 16, 2004, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. SGT Mastrapa's legacy of bravery, duty, and leadership remains an inspiration to his unit, his community, and a grateful nation.

We wrap our thoughts around his family, friends, and fellow Military soldiers who carry his memory forward every single day. He answered the call, protected our freedoms, and paid the highest price. We will never let his sacrifice fade into silence.

It was an enjoyable night as we celebrated Army Reserve Night at Segra Park with the Columbia Fireflies baseball team! The energy at the ballpark was unmatched as we celebrated our community and our Soldiers under the Friday night lights.

A special thank you to Brig. Gen. McDavitt for throwing out the first pitch to kick off the game, and to our Wildcat Color Guard for an incredible pre-game presentation. This was an unforgettable evening with our local community, Soldiers, and families.

A special shoutout goes to three incredible individuals who pushed past their limits to earn top honors this cycle. Here’s to the Soldiers of the Cycle, PV2 Zaire Turner from Brooklyn, NY and SPC Meghan Everett from Tatum, TX and the Soldier Leader of the Cycle, PVT Sophie Lema from Harrisonburg, VA. Leadership, and dedication like yours are exactly what the Army Reserve is all about. We are so proud to have you representing your hometowns and our country!

Twenty-two years ago, after his ultimate sacrifice on June 9, 2004, we continue to honor the legacy of SPC Thomas D. Caughman. We pause to honor his bravery. Walking into our building every day serves as a powerful reminder of his commitment and the true cost of freedom.

You could feel the pure pride and accomplishment in the air today as 121 Army Reserve Soldiers graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson.

We are especially proud of SPC Justin Lawrence from St. Francis, MN, who earned the title of Soldier Leader of the Cycle. His performance exemplifies the discipline and heart of the American Soldier. Congratulations to all our graduates on this significant milestone!

Yesterday, Maj. Gen. Wallace recognized three outstanding Soldiers for their recent actions and exceptional performance. She presented a two-star note and command coin to SFC Jamie Terry-Kemmer, SFC Adam Mosley, and MSG Donnyelle Smith in appreciation of their contributions and commitment to excellence.
