Howard County's kids are building a brighter future for their community!

Thank you to Guilford Park High School's National Honor Society for donating over 150 essential household items and personal hygiene products, and Girl Scouts of Central Maryland for donating 30 buckets of cleaning items!

Bridges had exhausted our available funds for items like these. Donations from local organizations, congregations, and student organizations are what keep our shelves full when funds run out, ensuring our households receive a warm Welcome Home! 💖

If you'd like to do more, visit bridges2hs.org/giving/ to view our Welcome Home Basket Donation Drive list and view pre-made wishlists with Amazon, Target, Walmart, and Costco.

The Harvard University Joint Center for Housing Studies recently published an article, “Living Longer with Less: The Financial Burdens on Older Women,” that examines the rising financial burdens on older women.

Over the past decade, the median income for older female-headed households has been $48,000, roughly two-thirds that of male-headed households ($71,000).

As women age, this gap widens, with households headed by women over 79 making a median income of $36,000. The majority of older renters are women, and for female renters 65 and older, the median income is $27,000.

Thank you to the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County for supporting Bridges with the 2026 Big Give! This $10,000 grant will allow Bridges to serve approximately 20 female-headed households in need of rental and utility assistance, and assistance with household necessities (bedding, cleaning supplies, toiletries).

As a majority-female organization, and 70%+ of our households each year being female-headed households, the support of Howard County's incredible women means the world to us. Thank you!💕

The Longevity Ready Maryland Plan is a 10-year strategy to ensure that state agencies coordinate how to address Maryland’s growing population of elders. The plan has four goals: build a longevity ecosystem, promote economic opportunity, prepare Marylanders to afford longevity, and optimize health, wellness, and mobility.

The new Aging Resilience fund will be non-lapsing, which will give the Department of Aging the ability to hold money without worries of it expiring at the end of the year.
