Today, the Democrats released a draft report, authored by consultant Paul Rivera, that attempts to explain the 2024 election results. This "autopsy report" has been delayed for several months, and is not complete. It is not an official statement of the DNC.
However, it does have some insights.
Mr. Rivera writes:
"Democrats need a new, forward-thinking electoral strategy focusing on more than who or what is on the ballot, and addressing how Democrats can reconnect with Americans at every level across our country. We must organize everywhere to Win Anywhere. Winning Anywhere means providing for a renewed focus on the voters of Middle America and the South, who have come to believe they are not included in the Democratic vision of a stronger and more dynamic America for everyone."
In other parts, he calls the idea of overlooking rural voters "mathematically indefensible":
" You can't lose rural areas by overwhelming margins and make it up elsewhere when rural voters are a significant share of the electorate. If Democrats are to reclaim leadership in the Heartland or the South, candidates must perform well in rural turf. Show up,
listen, and then do it again."
While we don't agree with every part of this report, this encapsulates our vision and drive.
Democrats must compete in places like Williamsport, Hampshire, Culleoka, Columbia, Mt. Pleasant, and Spring Hill. Without us, there is not a clear path to victory; the math ain't mathin'.
The Maury County Democratic Party is here because we want to show up, listen, and then do it again. That's who we are, and that's what we do.
