The CDR Assistive Technology Program helps people of all ages with disabilities explore and access tools that support everyday life. From identifying individual needs and recommending solutions to providing training and ongoing support, our goal is to help people find technology that works for them.

Meet Lauren Poyck, one of CDR’s Graduate Assistants! 🤙

Lauren is a Genetic Counseling graduate student at the University of South Carolina with a passion for making complex genetic information accessible and empowering individuals and families to make informed decisions about their health.

As a Graduate Assistant, Lauren is looking forward to gaining hands-on experience with the CDR Assistive Technology Program, exploring how adaptive tools can promote independence and participation, and building skills she can carry into her future career as a genetic counselor.

When she’s not studying, you might find Lauren strength training, scrapbooking, rewatching Gilmore Girls, or spending time with her cats, Cricket and Frog. 🐾

We’re excited to welcome Mia Lane back to the Center for Disability Resources for her second year as a Graduate Assistant!

Mia did an amazing job with CDR last year, bringing enthusiasm, dedication, and a genuine commitment to our work. We are thrilled to have her talents back for another year!

A Genetic Counseling graduate student at the University of South Carolina, Mia is passionate about genetics, lifelong learning, patient advocacy, and community engagement. 🧬 This year, she’ll continue her fieldwork while also working on her thesis examining quality of life for children with Batten Disease Type 2 (CLN2).

We can’t wait to see all that Mia accomplishes this year. Welcome back, Mia! 🌟🐔

Meet Payton, a USC Master of Social Work student passionate about creating inclusive, equitable, and compassionate care for others. 💛 She’s looking forward to gaining hands-on experience at CharlestonLIFE and building skills that will help her support individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Outside of school, Payton loves cooking, interior design, fashion, and finding the perfect secondhand treasure!
