Thank you for including CVSC in this important conversation!

Had some great conversations about our rivers yesterday with Daniel Rickenmann, Mayor Elise Partin, Councilman Sam Johnson, and Conservation Voters of South Carolina. The overarching message I heard… These rivers are absolutely worth protecting, and together we can do it.

Governor McMaster has been a true champion for conservation during his service to South Carolina, recognizing the importance of land protection in managing growth and setting the bold goal to protect 10 million acres. As a result, the recently approved state budget contains unprecedented funding for land protection, and the passage of the Protected Lands Act codifies a land protection benchmark of 7 million acres by 2050.

As Arnold Randall and Jason Crowley from the Ga***rd & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation wisely write in this recent commentary, the pursuit to protect half of South Carolina's land and water must continue regardless of changes in state leadership. We, like so many others across the state, hope to see this dedication to land and water protection continue under new leadership next year.
