3D printing is changing the game for accessibility devices. It makes custom tools more affordable and quicker to get, helping people live more independently.

From grips to mobility aids, 3D printing lets us create what’s needed, tailored to each person’s goals and lifestyle.

At Services for Independent Living, we’re excited to explore how this technology can expand access to the equipment you need.

Independence is not always a big dramatic milestone.

Sometimes it looks like spending time with a friend, being out in the community, and having the access to choose how you spend your day.

That is what choice looks like.

When access is treated like an afterthought, people get left out.

Accessibility is not a bonus feature of community.

It is how community works.

Missouri Centers for Independent Living showed up at the Capitol because policy decisions shape whether people with disabilities can live independently, access needed services, and stay connected to their communities.

Our work continues beyond the legislative calendar because disability rights are not seasonal.

Accessibility is more than checking a box.

A space is not truly accessible if people still have to fight the door, hunt for the entrance, squeeze through a hallway, or ask for help with something that should have been usable in the first place.

At SIL, we believe access should be practical, thoughtful, and built into the way our communities work.

Because “technically accessible” is not the same thing as accessible.

We’re collecting items for our Senior Sunshine Boxes, and we’d love your help.

These boxes include everyday essentials like shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towels, cleaning supplies, and other hygiene or household items.

For a lot of older adults living on limited incomes, these basics can be hard to keep stocked. When you’re trying to stretch every dollar, a bottle of detergent or a pack of toilet paper really does make a difference.

Senior Sunshine Boxes are currently made possible through support from Assistance League of Mid Missouri and are available to older adults served through SIL’s Senior Connect program. Community donations help us supplement that support and keep more useful items available for the people we serve.

All donated items must be new, unopened, and individual sized. Please do not donate bulk sized items.

You can help by donating items on your own, organizing a small fundraiser or collection drive for SIL, or purchasing directly from our Amazon wishlist.

Every item helps. Really. The boring stuff is often the most needed.

Being part of the community should not depend on whether you can drive, walk long distances, or navigate services alone.

Services for Independent Living helps people with disabilities, seniors, and veterans access the support they need to live more independently.

Transportation. Equipment. Advocacy. Peer support. Connection.

That is independent living in action.

On Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives in military service.

We also honor that sacrifice by continuing to serve veterans in our community every day.
