UT / TSU Extension - Maury County

UT / TSU Extension - Maury County Maury County's UT Extension is a cooperative division of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. UT Extension gives special attention to youth.

This statewide educational organization is funded by federal, state and local governments. UT Extension brings research-based information about agriculture, family and consumer sciences, and resource development to Maury County. Also, the 4-H Club youth development organization is administered by the UT Extension. UT Extension Maury County is staffed with agents who work in various areas of agricu

lture, family and consumer science and youth development. Agents conduct educational programming through an array of teaching methods to encourage change and the adapting of practices that will improve net income or quality of life. A strong part of UT Extension is the link it provides to the professional staff at the University of Tennessee. Specialists in the many varied areas of agriculture and family and consumer science train and work with agents to conduct programs in counties and develop educational material. Hundreds of residents are provided information about agriculture and family and consumer science. Preparing young people to become responsible, capable and involved leaders and citizens of Tennessee and the nation, is the goal of the 4-H program. This goal is accomplished by providing educational experiences for young people to gain knowledge, develop life skills, live healthy lives, make intelligent career choices and form positive attitudes - values young people will rely on throughout their lives. Tennessee has one of the largest 4-H memberships in the nation.

Beginning tomorrow, Tennessee landowners can apply for a new program designed to help preserve working farms and forests for generations to come.

The Preserving Land for Agriculture Now (PLAN) program supports the permanent conservation of agricultural and forest land through conservation easements while allowing continued farming and forestry activities.

Created through the Farmland Preservation Act, PLAN helps protect productive land, support Tennessee agriculture and forestry, and strengthen the long-term future of working lands across the state.

The first PLAN application period opens Sept. 1 and closes Jan. 8, 2027.

Applications must be submitted jointly by all parcel owners and a qualified easement holder.
