South Carolina Tuition Grants Commission The SC Higher Education Tuition Grants Commission is the State agency that administers the South Carolina Tuition Grants Program.

Created in 1970, the SC Tuition Grants Commission administers the South Carolina Tuition Grants Program, which provides grants based on financial need to eligible SC residents attending one of twenty-two independent colleges and universities in the State. On April 29, 2026, The SC Tuition Grants Commission hosted a statewide training workshop for financial aid professionals at our partnering independent colleges. We were fortunate to have representatives from all 21 colleges throughout the state in attendance. Participants engaged with Commission staff on areas such as program funding, best practices in administration and compliance, determination of residency status for students, strategic planning initiatives, and more.

Financial aid professionals are key stakeholders for the Tuition Grants Program and for our agency. We appreciate the opportunity to provide training and information to them, and to receive their critical feedback in return. Thank you to all who attended!

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, here is a classic Irish blessing:

"May your troubles be less, your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door."

One way to lessen your troubles and increase your blessings is by filling your FAFSA out ahead of state and institutional deadlines. If you haven't already completed your FAFSA for the 2026-2027 academic year, now is the perfect time!

❓Did you know February is "Financial Aid Awareness Month?" Check out the information below ⬇️

✅Financial aid makes college more affordable. Grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs are all considered financial aid and can be provided from different sources - federal government, state government, community organizations and associations, and even the college you plan to attend.

✅The first step is the FAFSA, available exclusively at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. The FAFSA is faster and easier than ever to fill out. Most students and families are able to complete it in less than 15 minutes. The FAFSA opens annually by October 1 - that means if you plan to attend college in Fall 2026 or Spring/Summer 2027, the time to file your FAFSA is NOW!

✅Filing the FAFSA is FREE, and so is assistance if you need it. You should never pay a person or an organization to file your FAFSA for you. If you need help, reach out to your high school guidance counselor, college financial aid office, or counselors through programs like TRIO and Upward Bound - they are all qualified to provide free expert assistance.

✅The FAFSA is based on income tax information from 2 years prior to the year you plan to attend college. That means you don't have to wait until your current year taxes are filed to apply!

✅Be aware of deadlines! Many institutions have priority FAFSA filing deadlines, and a lot of state aid programs are awarded on a first-come first-serve basis or have a deadline in place. For students attending independent colleges in South Carolina, the FAFSA deadline for the SC Tuition Grant is August 1, but we encourage you to file as early as you can to be considered for as much financial aid as possible.
