The Community Foundation of Howard County (CFHoCo) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity with the goal of improving the quality of life in Howard County, Maryland, primarily through endowment building and coordinated grant-making se

rvices. The Foundation is governed by a local volunteer Board of Trustees and run by professionals with expertise in assessing the community’s need, working with donors to connect generosity with need and managing charitable assets. We encourage local philanthropy and offer individuals, families and businesses a variety of easy and tax-efficient ways to impact their community through charitable giving. The Foundation assists donors in building an enduring source of charitable assets by allowing people to establish donor advised funds, as well as other permanent endowment funds under the umbrella of one large foundation. The distributions generated by the investment of those funds are used to make grants to qualified nonprofit organizations whose programs primarily serve the needs and enhance the quality of life for present and future residents of Howard County. The Foundation currently administers more than 300 charitable funds that reflect the philanthropic interests of their donors, and vary from unrestricted funds that support our Community Grants program to those for very specific purposes such as scholarships or the Arts. CFHoCo assists donors in defining their philanthropic interests and provides strategic thinking around the most effective ways their grants can realize the greatest impact. Private foundations and government or community organizations can also contract with CFHoCo to provide administrative, financial and grant-making services for their family foundations or trusts. The Foundation acts as a catalyst for community improvement by collaborating with a wide variety of partners. CFHoCo serves as a convener of individuals, institutions and resources to solve community problems, study community issues and unite, strengthen and promote Howard County.

We've been talking with donors about impact today, and in the future. In philanthropy, this is sometimes called “meeting the moment" - which means responding thoughtfully to current needs while investing in the long-term health and vitality of our community. As you think about your philanthropic goals, here are a few ideas to consider: https://cfhoco.org/a-moment-to-meet-philanthropys-role-in-strengthening-howard-county/

A Look Back at CFHC’s Spring Party 2026
Celebrating Community, Connection, and Philanthropy

When more than 200 community leaders, donors, nonprofit partners, professional advisors, volunteers, and friends gathered at Elkridge Furnace Inn for the CFHC Spring Party 2026, the evening was about much more than a celebration. It was a reflection of the relationships, generosity, and shared commitment that continue to strengthen Howard County.
From meaningful conversations and new connections to moments of laughter, reflection, and inspiration, the Spring Party brought together people from across our community who believe in the power of philanthropy and collective impact.

This year’s theme, “Where Community Blooms and Generosity Grows,” came to life throughout the evening as guests gathered to celebrate local impact, honor partnerships, and support the future of philanthropy in Howard County.

We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, supporters, Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, and all who joined us to help make the evening such a success. Events like the Spring Party remind us that the Community Foundation of Howard County is more than a grantmaker. It is a community convener, connector, and partner dedicated to building a stronger Howard County for all.
As we reflect on this special evening, we are excited for all that lies ahead and grateful to everyone who continues to help philanthropy grow in our community.

Enjoy a look back at some of our favorite moments from the evening.

The Spring Party may be over, but the momentum continues!

As we look ahead to the Community Foundation’s Annual Celebration of Philanthropy on November 17, we also invite our community to learn more about the Fund for Howard County, a new way to support responsive, community-driven philanthropy and local impact across Howard County. Together, we are building a stronger community through local philanthropy and collective impact.
