If you see violations of the City’s new Median Safety Ordinance, going into effect July 1, there are two ways to report these violations. One way is to call 311 and report the violation to CPD’s non-emergency number. The other way is to use the City’s SeeClickFix. This allows you to report an incident online and can be found here: https://www.como.gov/city-managers-office/report-an-issue/

One of the greatest benefits of operating our own basic police academy is the opportunity to introduce future Columbia police officers to the values of both our department and the community they will serve. Policing is about more than enforcing laws. It is about building relationships, understanding community needs, and serving others.

The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri has been a valued partner of our department for many years. Today, our recruits had the opportunity to learn about the critical services the Food Bank provides while also helping package food that will be distributed in our community and the surrounding area. Experiences like these help reinforce the importance of service, compassion, and community engagement from the very beginning of an officer’s career.

We'd like to share a big thank you to the volunteer group from the Columbia Missouri Police Department Training Academy for the time they spent this morning learning more about our organization and helping us package fresh produce for neighbors in our community.

We greatly appreciate your support. Your help makes a huge difference to the individuals and families we serve both in Columbia and across our 32-county service area!

We can always use the help of our community both at The Food Bank and at The Food Bank Market. If you would like to join us in supporting food security, visit https://sharefoodbringhope.org/volunteer/ to learn more about all of our volunteering opportunities!

High-quality public safety services begin long before an emergency call. They start with training.

Recently, recruits from the Columbia Police and Columbia Fire training academies came together for joint training focused on responding to active assailants and setting up rescue responses. These exercises help prepare future first responders to serve our growing community safely and effectively.

Modern public safety depends on well-trained personnel, reliable equipment and facilities that support realistic training. These training exercises are a reminder that investing in preparedness today helps ensure readiness tomorrow.

On May 26, Columbia Police Officers responded to a report of a road rage incident involving shots fired in the 3200 block of Clark Lane. There were no reported injuries.

Columbia Police Street Crimes detectives were able to identify the suspect through the use of camera systems including Flock Safety cameras. It was determined the suspect resided in Moberly and, through a joint investigation with the Moberly Police Department and the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, an arrest warrant and search warrant were obtained.

On May 29, The Columbia Police Department’s SWAT Team — with assistance from the Columbia Police Vice, Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit, the Moberly Police Department and the Randolph County Sheriff's Department — served a search warrant in the 300 block of College Avenue in Moberly.

Columbia Police arrested Robert Neese Jr., 49, of Moberly, on charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

"Today's arrest in Moberly and yesterday's arrest in Jefferson City stem from two separate shots-fired incidents that occurred in Columbia,” said Lance Bolinger, assistant chief of the Columbia Police Department. “Through technology and coordination with neighboring agencies, our Columbia Police Street Crimes detectives were able to make arrests in both cases.

“A decade ago, these investigations would have been incredibly difficult to solve without the right tools. Today, the right equipment, proactive officers and strong partnerships with adjoining departments change the timeline on how we can address gun crime."

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652.
