Buffalo Central Terminal, once a crown jewel of American rail travel, opened in 1929 as a grand Art Deco station serving the New York Central Railroad. At its peak, it handled over 200 trains and 10,000 passengers daily, a bustling gateway for travelers moving through upstate New York. Designed with soaring ceilings, marble floors, and elegant details, it symbolized the height of early 20th-century transportation.

But as train travel declined after World War II, the terminal fell into disuse. It officially closed in 1979 and has since stood mostly abandoned, an architectural time capsule.

In recent years, however, there’s been a push to restore and repurpose the structure, bringing new hope to one of Buffalo’s most iconic and hauntingly beautiful landmarks.
