MAURY COUNTY HEADS UP!
If you hear tornado sirens go off today, don't be alarmed — it's a routine test! Tornado sirens placed across the county will be activated for a brief period to test their capability and readiness. No emergency is taking place, and you do not need to seek shelter.
How they work:
The sirens are connected to the National Weather Service and will sound automatically during tornado warnings and warnings for other life-threatening events, like flash floods.
They will not sound for tornado watches or other severe weather watches — only warnings.
Stay alert indoors too: Tornado sirens are designed to be heard outside. Residents should have at least two ways of receiving alerts when inside during severe weather — the WSMV4 App and a NOAA weather radio are two great tools to use for notifications.
When we test: The Tornado siren tests will occur on the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 PM. Tests may be postponed if severe weather is possible or if temperatures are at or below 32 degrees.
Use this test as an opportunity to review your family's severe weather emergency plan and identify the location of your nearest shelter.
