STORYTELLING SUNDAY

A Missouri judge is expected to decide Monday whether Amendment 5 will remain on the August ballot.

So what is Amendment 5?

The proposal would allow Missouri lawmakers to move toward eliminating the state income tax and replacing that revenue with expanded sales taxes. If approved by voters, it could give lawmakers broad authority to increase or expand sales taxes without returning to voters for approval.

Opponents have filed a lawsuit arguing that the measure violates Missouri's constitutional requirement that amendments address only one subject. They also argue that the ballot language voters would see is misleading and does not fully explain the amendment's impact.

Supporters say the proposal is a tax reform measure that belongs before voters. Opponents say it would shift more of the tax burden onto everyday purchases and make significant changes to multiple parts of Missouri's Constitution.

The court's decision won't determine whether Amendment 5 becomes law. It will determine whether the measure stays on the August ballot and what information voters receive if it does.

Regardless of where you stand politically, voters deserve clear ballot language, transparent government, and the opportunity to understand exactly what they are being asked to approve.

๐Ÿ˜ด SATIRICAL SATURDAY ๐Ÿ˜ด

Remember when we were told America's biggest problem was "Sleepy Joe"?

Now the internet spent time this past week zooming in, enhancing video, and debating whether "Wide Awake Donald" was catching a few Z's at Arlington.

But if you're going to spend years branding your opponent as "Sleepy Joe," you should probably avoid creating even the *possibility* of a sequel called "Sleepy Donald."

The lesson here isn't about naps.

It's about hypocrisy.

Because apparently age concerns only matter when they're politically convenient.

โ˜• Stay awake, Boone County.
Democracy needs all of us paying attention.
