PRESS RELEASE

‼️‼️ALL SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN BETHEL CHURCH COMMUNITY‼️‼️

At approximately 1:20 p.m. today, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the Bethel Church community near Sims Lane.

Following the reported shooting, the suspects fled the area in a vehicle before wrecking. Four individuals then fled the scene on foot.

One suspect was taken into custody shortly afterward near the intersection of Bethel Church Road and Crawley Road. Deputies continued searching the area, and two additional suspects were taken into custody on Bethel Church Road near Windham Road.

One remaining suspect fled on foot into a heavily wooded area, prompting deputies to continue an extensive search of the surrounding area. During the search, Marion County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a male subject walking through a backyard on Miller Road. Deputies immediately responded to the area and subsequently located and took the final suspect into custody on Robbins Wilks Road.

All four suspects are now in custody, and there is no longer an active search for suspects related to this incident.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Columbia Police Department for its assistance during this incident, as well as the other departments and agencies that responded or were en route to assist with the search.

We would also like to thank the residents of the Bethel Church community and surrounding areas who remained vigilant, reported suspicious activity, and cooperated with law enforcement throughout the search. The information provided by members of the public assisted law enforcement during the search for the suspects.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information regarding the shooting, the individuals involved, and any applicable charges will be released at a later date as the investigation progresses.

Three of the Four suspects are in custody. One remains in a heavily wooded area on Bethel Church Road. Only description is a black male, light colored shirt, with neck tattoos.

🚨 PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT – ARMED & DANGEROUS SUSPECT 🚨

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for an armed and dangerous suspect in the Bethel Church Road and Windham Road area.

The suspect is described as a Black male and was last seen on foot.

Wearing a light colored shirt, and has neck tattoos.

⚠️ DO NOT APPROACH THE SUSPECT.

Residents in the area are urged to:
• Remain alert and aware of your surroundings.
• Secure your homes, vehicles, and outbuildings.
• Keep children and pets indoors.
• Call 911 immediately if you see the suspect or observe any suspicious activity.

Do not attempt to confront or detain the individual.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Come to a complete stop and proceed only when it is safe and you have the right-of-way.

🟡 Flashing YELLOW:
Slow down and proceed with caution. You are not required to stop unless necessary for safety.
