Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 in the United States to commemorate the adoption of the United States flag on June 14, 1777. To honor our flag, encourages Howard County residents to attend a flag retirement celebration at the Alpha Ridge Landfill Gazebo, 2350 Marriottsville Rd., tomorrow, June 13 from 11 a.m. to noon. Bring old, tattered or torn flags to be retired properly.

Empowering the Next Generation of Changemakers

Howard County Department of Community Resources and Services' Office of the Local Children’s Board (OLCB) invites Howard County high school students to join them for a 2-day “Youth Leadership Development for Equity” workshop on June 22 - 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Meeting House, 5885 Robert Oliver Place in Columbia.

Participants will learn how to identify and challenge systems of inequity, develop inclusive leadership skills, and gain confidence to become a champion for social change. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast. Must have parent's permission to attend; register at bit.ly/HoCo-YouthLeadersforEquity.

Howard County Department of Community Resources and Services' partners with Howard County Office of Consumer Protection and its Scam Squad year-round to spread awareness of the risks of financial exploitation caused by fraud, scams, and identity theft and provide resources for prevention and recovery.
