The Food Bank turns 45 this month! We’re celebrating by taking a trip down memory lane. We’re digging through the archives to find photos and videos that show how we’ve grown over the years.
First up: The Volunteer Room! If you’ve volunteered with The Food Bank in the last couple of decades, there’s a good chance you’ve spent some time in the Volunteer Room. The room has been renovated, and we’ve added color to the walls, but most importantly, the projects our volunteers work on have changed in meaningful ways. We’ve shifted from mostly packing things like hot dogs, shelf-stable items and canned food to packing frozen corn, potatoes and even eggs. That was a strategic move to support The Food Bank’s goal of sharing more nutritious foods that encourage overall health and well-being.
We’ve also seen growth in our overall volunteer numbers. In 2004, The Food Bank hosted more than 6,500 people who served nearly 41,000 hours. In 2025, more than 10,700 volunteers served over 76,000 hours!
While much has changed since our beginnings in 1981, one thing remains the same: volunteers are the foundation of The Food Bank’s work. Whether you’ve volunteered with us for years or just signed up for your very first shift, we are so grateful for your support!
