Archivist Amy Egnew came across a collection of documents related to the building of our historic 1904 courthouse today. Companies from all over the country bid on aspects of construction and design. Among them was Acme Furniture Company in New Orleans, which makes sense given who we learned the county mayor was in 1904…

The Maury County Archives would like to welcome Paper Conservator Kat Trammell to the staff. Kat knows paper! A real scientist, she can mend and stabilize paper and make old documents look new. She is manning our state-of-the-art paper conservation lab where she will be conserving our incredible and complete collection of Maury County records. She will also be happy to talk to other counties and private collectors about how best to preserve their historic documents.

The Maury County Archives would like to welcome Will Pogue as our new archives aide! When you visit the Archives, Will’s face will be the first one you see. He’ll welcome you and get you started on your archival adventure!
Will has a lot of experience and interest in history. A native Maury Countian, he spent nearly five years with the Battle of Franklin Trust, and he taught in the Maury County School system. Will is a great researcher, can lift lots of heavy ledgers and boxes of documents, has a very fun sense of humor and crushed a Russian accent.
We are proud to welcome Will to the Maury County Archives.

We are now a FamilySearch Affiliate Library! We are excited to announce that we are now a FamilySearch affiliate library, which means we have more resources to help you with your family history. Our new designation provides greater access to billions of historical records on FamilySearch.org that are not viewable from a home computer. This valuable resource is absolutely free! Simply use one of our dedicated computers or connect to our public Wi-Fi to access the full range of resources. A free FamilySearch account is required to get started. This new partnership will help us serve you as you discover your roots and make personal family connections.

Maury County Archives Seeks Paper Conservator!

Join the team dedicated to preserving Maury County’s invaluable history! The Maury County Human Resources Department is accepting applications for a full-time Paper Conservator at the Maury County Archives to work in our brand new state of the art Preservation lab! This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in in protecting Maury County’s original documents, from historic government records to special collections.
This is a full-time position with a minimum salary of $49,995 per year.

The Maury County Archives is proud to announce that we have recently acquired the Everett Campbell Survey Collection! Mr. Campbell has been a surveyor in Middle Tennessee since the 1950’s and has measured nearly every rod and chain of Maury County!

Our staff and volunteers will be scanning and making these available on our website over the next year (there are thousands). We already have the Harris Survey Collection up and running on our website.

The Maury County Archives would like to thank Father and Mrs. James K. Polk Van Zandt for donating their portrait of his ancestor and namesake President James K. Polk by G.P.A. Healy. It passed down through his family and now holds a place of honor at our new facility.

We’ve done it. After two-and-a-half years of planning, building, and moving millions of records, today marks the completion. We moved the last of the records from the courthouse and other county storage spaces to the new archives today. Now comes the hard work of organizing, rehousing, preserving, and making it all available to the public.
