As the Executive Director of “The Nest” I recently had the opportunity to participate in a PBS feature highlighting the work being done within Carolina Wildlife Center.
While I may have been the one speaking on camera, this story has never been about one person, especially not me. It belongs to an incredible team of wildlife rehabilitators, volunteers, veterinarians, interns, educators and support staff who show up every single day to give wild animals a second chance.
What viewers see in a few minutes on television represents thousands of hours of animal care, late-night feedings, emergency rescues, medical treatments, educational programs, habitat maintenance, fundraising efforts, and an unwavering commitment to wildlife conservation. Our mission has existed for 30 years, providing a second chance to over 100,000 animals.
I am fortunate to work with and support some of the most dedicated and selfless people I have ever met. I am simply the one in front of the camera or raising funds to keep our doors open. The real work, happens inside those 4 walls, 24/7 365. They celebrate the victories, carry the heartbreaks, and show up everyday to provide a second chance to wildlife in need.
I hope this PBS feature on Making It Grow helps shine a light on the extraordinary work happening inside our center each day and the remarkable team that makes it possible.
Thank you to our staff, volunteers, supporters, and community for helping make this mission a reality.
