The Employee of the Quarter for first quarter of 2026 is Heather Acton, Senior Accountant/Financial Analyst in the Auditor’s Office.
We are delighted to recognize Heather Acton for her outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to Boone County.
The Auditor’s Office works closely with every county office, and when difficult questions arise, Heather is the person who finds the answers. She is the go-to accountant for complex situations involving external auditors, the Treasurer’s Office, payroll, budgets, and audits. Heather diligently reviews journal entries, payroll, budgets, and audit details, and she works collaboratively with other offices to correct inaccuracies. She is widely relied upon for her expertise, institutional knowledge, and remarkable memory.
As the county’s most senior accountant, Heather is also the go-to person within the Auditor’s Office. She trains new hires, reviews the work of others, leads the budget process, and is always willing to help. Whether researching archived emails for answers or guiding staff through ERP software questions, Heather approaches every challenge with patience and professionalism. She is also down to earth and brings positivity to the office every day. Much of the Auditor’s Office work happens behind the scenes, but those who work closely with Heather know how deeply she cares about accuracy, accountability, and doing things the right way. Her leadership and dedication are truly admirable.
The Auditor's Office was one of the offices instrumental in assisting with the new payroll software implementation, and Heather's involvement with the ERP has been vital over the years, on top of helping train and support other offices while balancing audit work and closing the prior year’s ledger. She consistently takes on additional responsibilities to support her team, recently helping the office close last year’s ledger by April 7 — the earliest completion since 2018.
Heather’s long-standing dedication, strong work ethic, and leadership make her an invaluable part of Boone County.
