Congratulations on a wonderful career Chief Shirer! We will miss you and hope you enjoy retirement!
đŽđźââď¸All good things must come to an end, please help us wish Chief Shirer a fond farewell as he retires this week!đŽđźââď¸
Paul âLinâ Shirer was born and raised in Calhoun County, where he still resides today.
He graduated from Calhoun Academy in 1992 and soon began a distinguished career in law enforcement. His first position was with the Calhoun County Sheriffâs Department under Sheriff Bing Jones. In 1995, Lin graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, further preparing him for a career of dedicated public service.
Lin married his wife, Christy, in 1998, and together they welcomed their daughter, Cailin, in 2011. Family has always remained at the center of Linâs life and values.
After leaving the Calhoun County Sheriffâs Department in 2000, Lin joined the Orangeburg County Sheriffâs Department. During his years with both Calhoun and Orangeburg County Sheriffâs Offices, Lin was involved in numerous high-level narcotics investigations and participated in multiple federal arrests and prosecutions of dangerous drug traffickers. Lin joined the Lexington County Sheriffâs department in 2004.
In 2006, Lin began serving as Assistant Chief of the Elloree Police Department, where he served for ten years. In April 2016, he became Chief of Police for the Town of North Police Department, a position he held with pride and distinction until his retirement at the end of May 2026.
Beyond law enforcement, Lin has given generously of his time to his community. He served as a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years and has officiated football, baseball, and basketball for SCISA for many years. Known as a true Southern gentleman, Lin enjoys hunting, fishing, and cheering on Clemson athletics.
Above all else, Lin treasures time with his family. Much of his off-duty time has been spent supporting his daughter as she travels for school and travel softball teams. Over the years, he has also proudly helped coach several of her teams.
During his tenure in North, Lin worked under three mayors and remained committed to strengthening community relationships. Under his leadership, the North Police Department was actively involved in numerous community events, including Back to School Bashes, food drives, Halloween carnivals, Christmas parades, and Easter celebrations. Lin has often expressed how much he appreciated working alongside the mayors, council members, judges, officers, and town employees throughout his career.
The Town of North has been truly blessed to have such a dedicated, knowledgeable, and dependable Chief of Police. His leadership, service, and friendship will be greatly missed. As he enters this new chapter of life, we wish him nothing but good health and continued happiness.
We will miss you, Chief!!! đ
