Recently, RCSD K9 handlers traveled to France to take part in an exchange program at the CNICG, the National Canine Training Center of the French Gendarmerie. During the week long visit, K9 Specialist Sox and K9 Specialist Jeffcoat, joined by program coordinator K9 Specialist Michel Galliot, observed and participated in every stage of K9 training. They also took part in live operational scenarios alongside experienced K9s and handlers.

The exchange program is designed to build close collaboration with French K9 handlers and instructors while providing an opportunity to compare training methods and operational procedures. This exchange helps strengthen professional relationships and broadens each team’s understanding of effective canine operations.
RCSD extends its sincere thanks to CNICG Commander Colonel Pascal Segui, Captain Philippe Dubourg, as well as all CNICG instructors, handlers, and administrative staff.

Richland County Sheriff's Department deputies recently joined law enforcement professionals and animal welfare advocates from across the state at the 2nd Annual Animal Advocacy Association Conference.

The conference provided an opportunity for agencies to collaborate, share best practices, and strengthen efforts to protect animals and hold offenders accountable. We are especially proud of Lt. Clarke, who was honored with the SCAAA Achievement Award in recognition of his dedication and contributions to animal advocacy and enforcement efforts.

Sheriff Lott had the privilege of delivering the conference's closing remarks, highlighting the importance of continued partnership, education, and commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities—both human and animal.

Congratulations to Lt. Clarke on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you to everyone who helped make this year's conference a success.

Master Deputies Perry and Catoe joined Don Frierson on The Urban Scene this afternoon to talk about one of our favorite topics: investing in our youth.

They discussed ways to help keep young people on the right path and shared details about tomorrow's Ju'Stice Games flag football matchup between RCSD and the Columbia Police Department.

Come out and cheer us on tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Keenan High School as we bring our community together through friendly competition, mentorship, and fun. We hope to see you there! 🏈

What began from unimaginable loss has become a movement of hope.

After losing her son, Ju, to gun violence, his mother made a choice that continues to impact our community in a powerful way. Instead of allowing tragedy to have the final word, she created the Ju'stice Foundation to help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.

When we partnered together for our first Gun Take Back event, the goal was simple: if just one unwanted firearm was removed from circulation, it would be worth it.

Today, these photos tell a story far greater than we imagined. Every firearm turned in represents an opportunity to prevent a theft, an accident, a crime, or a tragedy.

We are incredibly grateful to the Ju'stice Foundation for turning pain into purpose and for standing with us in the effort to save lives. We are also thankful to Serve & Connect for hosting today's Gun Take Back event.

Gun violence has touched too many families. Together, we are proving that communities can come together to create positive change.
